Any January 2014 Surgeries?

  • Popular Post

Well I finally have a surgery date set to Jan 8th. I am so excited that it's finally approaching. I have been on this journey since August! I can not explain how thrilled and excited I am. I have so many thoughts that goes through my mind like what should I pack? Etc. Anyone else have a date for January?

  • I am having my surgery on Jan 7!! I'm really excited but also very nervous... I'm 23 years old. I don't know many people as young as me that's gotten it done.

How did you make your homemade broth??

. Boil chicken (or a chunk of beef) with carrots, celery, onion, garlic, salt, pepper, etc until everything is turning to mush and chicken is falling off the bone, allow to cool, strain, skim fat off the top....takes a few hours but you can do big batches and freeze. I usually throw in peppercorns and a bay leaf too. The veggies need to be washed but just cut in big chunks, you don't even have to peel em. Chicken on the bone has the best flavor, I prefer a whole chicken or thighs (thighs are cheap!). You CAN freeze the chicken and save for chicken salad post op if you're feeling that rambunctious. My puppies usually get the carrots once they're done. It takes some time but it is sooo much better. I'm sure you can google 'homemade chicken broth' for specifics!

I have a surgery set for Jan 23rd. Being it's the new year I decided to start my pre-op yesterday on the 2nd. I just "joined" this site looking for encouragement from people going through the same things at the same time. I am excited to see/experience what this year will bring.

My Surgery is on the 16th and I was given a 3 week liquid diet..OMG!! This is very hard for Me to start and stick with. I'm sensitive to artificial sweeteners and I mistakenly purchased the Atkins Advanced French Vanilla..Uuggghhhh, horrible! Hopefully tomorrow I can start the diet and stick with it strictly!

It's so much easier, cheaper, and tastier to make your own shakes...

Do share recipe please! I have bought a few different kinds. I can't believe how much I spent!

Bry76, we are all here for words of encouragement so you came to the right place! Hang in there!!

My surgery date is January 15th, I have the pre-admission testing January 9th and 1 week of liquid starting the 9th of January.

I am so excited but haven't told none of my kids or mother n law. I jam afraid of the watchful eyes and the readiness to point out if I am not losing weight fast enough of how it was probably a failure. I am just trying to avoid that for the time being, I will eventually tell them but probably after some noticeable weight loss. I just find my family so pessimistic about things and I don't need that right now.

I'm on a full liquid diet and if you're looking for something with the full liquid consistency, I just made this really good homemade cream of potato soup. My recipe was kind of a random thought so I don't have really any measurements so I apologize for that. I used 3 large potatoes, peeled and cubed. I parboiled them (they were still a little firm), then I drained off some of the water. I added some seasonings like salt, pepper, garlic powder, parsley. I then added one can of chicken broth (10oz), 1 cup milk (I suppose heavy cream would work as well), and 2 packets of the Augratin potato cheese packet mix. I let all this set on medium heat for about 20-25 minutes or so, until potatoes were tender. I added a little dolop of light sour cream and 2 tbsp of light cream cheese (these two items can be omitted) then I turned heat down to simmer and used a potato masher to completely mash the potatoes. Viola. Hey, I never said it was healthy! But if we're consuming nothing but clear liquids all day, this would make for a great dinner, especially with it being winter!!

Serves approximately 6

Cemmons, first I commend you for taking control of your life. Do you have a support system? This forum can be absolutely wonderful when you're looking for recipes, or people to relate to, or even that encouraging word when needed. My family has been very supportive from the very beginning so it's hard for me to imagine anyone else not having that. But were certainly glad you joined and we're here for you!! Welcome.

I have a good friend who had a sleeve 18mos ago. People who met in here created a private Facebook page. I've been reading and asking questions there for the past 7 months or so. But now I really need to be talking to people who are at my same stage. Has anyone considered creating. FB group page? It's private, requires an invitation and it a lot better format that in here. Just a thought.

Great idea!

I think we have to be friends on FB in order for me to add someone to a group. If you, or anyone else, is interested just pm me your name and I will friend you on FB and then add you to the group.

I am on day 3 day. First two days were difficult. I am hoping today I round a corner and it gets easier. The scale is moving (in the right direction) so that is encouraging.

I have been having 2-3 MaxPro protein drinks during the day, 1-2 servings of low sodium chicken broth and another protein drink for dinner but I add frozen strawberries and pineapples. My dietician recommended the Nectar brand protein drinks. They have a lemonade flavor and a flavorless that can be added to anything.

I just had THE best protein shake this morning! I went to the grocery store and came across this packet for banana smoothie mix that required milk, ice and one ripe banana. So I purchased some bananas, and Lactaid fat free milk. I put the bananas in the fridge for a while to ripen them a bit then I threw the smoothie mix, banana, milk, ice AND a packet of Unjury Chocolate Splendor flavoring protein powder in the blender for a minute and you talk about something SOOOO good! Give it a try!!! Unjury is such a breath of fresh air! No after taste...no chalky-Ness.

Hello! I have one more test, an endoscopy this coming week, and then the paperwork goes into insurance. I'm excited and nervous. Hoping for a date at end of January. Please share your experience post-surgery when you are able to. God bless & good luck on the 8th!
