Woke Up With A Very Tender Belly Button Today. Weird. Hernea Maybe?

Recommended Posts

It wasn't there when I went to sleep but when I woke up today the area around my belly button was tender and sore. I hear that hernias are common when you lose a lot of weight pretty quickly and also when you're heavy, which I still am. But what does a hernia feel like? It's sore and tender there now in the whole belly button area.

Idea's? Moans? Groans?

*oops, I misspelled hernia in the title.

Mine is infected and I'm having to peroxide it where the incision is inside. Does it have an odor or is it weeping? If so it could be infected. I've never had a hernia so can't help you out there, sorry. Hope you get to feeling better though.

So I've had something similar since about week 3 - but for me it's migrating pain near (and below) my incisions. The one that scared me was under my largest incision on the left. My doc's office says that it's all about healing around the staples, and how you are scarring on the inside. I frequently get a pain below my belly button if I wear pants with a button that sort of jabs me during the day (that's embarrassing to admit but I'm wearing my smaller clothes now because I'm excited they almost fit me! :) you understand LOL )

Anyway, you might want to call your surgeon's office to double check that all is well. I've had these weird pangs since about week 3 and they come and go. One day all is fine and the next my belly button hurts again. So bizarre. The PA called the lump under my largest incision a "surgical ridge" and said it would be tender as things heal over about 6 months. Hope you feel better soon!!

Wild! I hear the "egg" beneath your skin is normal and just scar tissue. I'm not sure if it goes away.

Good morning! Is it better today? I hope so.

Yeah, I had an "egg" under my large incision for a while, but it faded away. That spot is still tender though.

Yeah I figured out what it was. My damn belly button is infected. Apparently this is common because I've lost so much weight so quickly the belly button has gotten a little "deeper" cause the skin hasn't caught up with it yet. I wash it but haven't been drying it as well as I should be and I woke up this morning with a belly button full of blood.

WEIRD.

I cleaned it out real well and called the doctors office. I can't get in there for at least a week because of their weird hours but on Saturday, if this doesn't get any better I will go to a Minute Clinic and get some antibiotics.

Such a random, strange side effect of losing weight quickly.

Endless I recommend blow drying your belly button dry after cleaning and showering.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
