Vomiting After a Fill...Is This Common?

Recommended Posts

New Me,

I just went through the same thing. After trying to eat a salad with chicken (actually, just pick at it), something got stuck. I PB'd and then went back on liquids, thinking it would heal and be fine. No, it didn't heal on its own. The band was SO tight it took an entire day to down 20 oz. of Water. I decided to see the doctor (which is in Mexico.) On the way, I began vomitting blood. The band area had gotten so swollen and irritated, it was bleeding! I had to have a TOTAL unfill. It will take three weeks now to heal up for another fill.

I don't EVER want to be too tight again!!! It is NOT worth it. The doctor told me that being too tight is risky for the health of the band also.

Please get a slight unfill. It is better to be safely eating healthy salads, veggies and fruits, than choking on Ensure the rest of our lives.

I was filled too tight on one my fills and I had the same symptons. I would call my doctor back. I was sick for 2 weeks and when I went back to my dr. he said I was dehydrated. Turned out if I would have waited a couple of more days I would have been in the hospital. My nutrition says that when this happens it never gets better. Hope you feel better soon.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
