How do I get to the research section?

I too, am scared to death. I am very afraid of leakage and blood clots. My husband is not on board with this surgery. I think he's worried I am going to die. He also thinks I rushed into my decision, but he doesn't know just how long I've been thinking about this and doing research. I was originally going to go with the Lap Band, but after a ton of research and talking with those who had the sleeve, I believe I made the right choice.

If you've done your research, you know that the risks of this surgery are not significantly different than any other major surgery. You wouldn't pass up appendix surgery for risk of dying on the operating table---you're much more likely to die if you don't do it. Same with obesity.

Oh I'm definitely getting the sleeve, I have a lot if confidence in my surgeon. I'm trying to get all if my appointments (PT, sleep study, upper GI, blood work and having my PCP write off for the surgery, psych eval, nutrition) done in Dec so I can get a Jan surgery date, but not sure how it will all work out with Christmas travels out of state, we shall see

Did anyone else have to see all these specialities pre surgery?

I was lucky. ONE, I repeat, one NUT visit and preop blood work. I got in before BCBS changed policy. Whew! Approved first try w letter from Dr. I did have HBP, sleep apnea as co morbidities, though.

I'm hoping I only need 1 nut visit bc my ins. doesn't cover it and I'm dreading the sleep study, but mostly I'm freaking out about gaining weight over the holidays

If you read my ticker, it shows what I had (and still have) to get done. I have one more nutrition class on December 17th and then it goes to Insurance for approval. They are thinking I'll have sleeve surgery sometime in January (crossing fingers).

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
