Confessions!of A Pre-Op Drama Queen!

Recommended Posts

I don't get my date until after my appointment Friday. I have been having to have a shake each morning and eat lean and green. I totally failed yesterday. Thanksgiving dinner I stuffed myself. Plus I had leftovers today. Ugh. Back to my diet tomorrow. I've had to do this diet 3 months. I try and stick with it the best I can but have probably had too many food funerals because I've only lost 11 pounds.

Wow..let me know your date when you find out.. do u think itll b dec?

I think the best thing to do is to remind yourself of why you are having the surgery. I did that when I had a moment of panic about one week before surgery. It really put the whole issue back into the proper perspective. My reasons were to preclude diabetes and other health repercussions of obesity and to improve the quality of my life. Think about yours.

Your completly right

Oh dear, I was trying to make you laugh, not tremble with fear!

If you really are that worried, why not put off the op for a while? It will be there when you are ready for it. I gather you are a lot younger than me, so you have time on your side.

Good luck.

Hon, if graduating high school was the worst thing that has happened to you, you are leading a magical, charmed life! Change is a good thing. It is what helps us learn and grow and experience all the wonders of life.

However, if you are truly so crippled by your anxiety at 18, it would be best to postpone this surgery and put your energies into therapy for your anxiety. Later, when you have gained more emotional balance you will be much better prepared for the ups and downs that come after your surgery when you are committed to a restrictive food plan and a daily exercise program. It means learning a whole new way of eating and living and is like having a part time job. It brings a myriad of changes to your life every day. While you have the joys of losing weight and getting healthier, you will have to do some things you don't want to do simply because they must be done in order to succeed. At times, that takes a great deal of courage and determination. It doesn't sound like you are up to that challenge yet at this stage of your life and might be easily overwhelmed. A counselor with expertise in weight loss could be a huge help to you now.

Best wishes for your journey!

I agree with Turnthepage. You will have read on loads of threads of people feeling overwhelmed in the weeks or months after surgery. And even more say that they either wished they had or are glad they did work on their "heads" as well as their stomachs.

The sleeve isn't a magic thing that solves all, there's work to be done to lose weight and keep it off and challenges along the way. It's not right for everyone and for most of us there's a right and a wrong time to do it. It takes as much courage to honestly say "I'm not ready just yet" as "I can do this".

At 18 you have time - make the most of it. That's using all your advantages, not failing.

I've lost 120 lbs in 8 months but I'm only half way to goal. Don't use my weight loss as a gauge. I started at 405 lbs.

Life changing events can be super overwhelming and anxiety inducing. Even happy occasions. Take a deep breath.

Ok so i didnt say graduating hs was the worst thing that happened to me... i said thats when it started... when i was in high school i had a hard time around 10th grade i never went to school i didnt really wanna but somewhere around 11 grade a light bulb went off in mg head. Do i wanna be here forever?? And the answer was no... somehow i happened to put all the begative thoughts behind me and focus on graduating it wasnt easy bexause i thought i wasnt gonna graduate...thays where the anxiety came from...not knowing where live would take me now that hs was done...no more babying...etc i had to do everything on my own now forreal the thought consumed my mind and thats what scared me....but i think starting college was the best thing ive done so far i feel very accomplished knowing where i cane from....i see a counselor....now dont get it twisted i have some belief in myself but i do have doubts like i stated above...growing up i always let negative thoughts cloud my mind am i ready for the surgery?? Hell yea i am i couldnt have been more ready to change my life but when i talk to someone and they say negative things...it puts scary thing into my conscience like i spoke to my aunt yeaterday and she said to me that the reason y my cousin didnt get it was because alot of people pass away shortly after surgery which scared the crap outta me cuz that was one of my anxieties even if one of my othe cousins had it like 6 years ago idk y i am so doubtful

I usually get really full once I have my shake, but they give me diarrhea so I end up drinking tons of Water so I don't get dehydrated.

I have an anxiety disorder and bipolar disorder and my medications really help. You may need help controlling your anxiety with medication. Even if it's only temporary.

I have faith in you that you can do this!! Good luck!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
