Food Additives

Recommended Posts

On my pre op diet I had hit a wall so to speak and couldn't lose anymore weight. I was consistently eating high protein/low carb (no bread, Pasta etc) and did not lose for weeks. I had a work trip to Germany for a week and decided that I was going to experience the food and relax and enjoy myself. I ate so much. I'm talking Breakfast lunch and dinner were all an affair, not just a formality. We had appetizers and dessert every night after eating a hearty meal and I enjoyed every minute of it. I ate duck and lamb and squid which I'd never had before along with other things. I say all of this to add that I lost 7 lbs while I was there! This along with many articles etc has me convinced that not only our choice if food is making us add on the lbs but also the preservatives and additives that our food is being treated with before it ever makes it into our shopping carts. I'm now a firm believer that the fight against some companies is worth it. If other countries are outlawing some of these "growth enhancers", why aren't we?

I personally know of someone that is a food scientist. What is that you ask?? Her job is to come up with a product to market that has as little nutritional value as possible, while still keeping the food like appearance.

The end goal is to market It as food while keeping the costs down to make/create it. It's really appalling what the food giants will do to earn a few bucks.

Oh and this food scientist is just one of hundreds that work for General Mills.

It's no surprise and the big push to make it work is to "end world hunger" supposedly but what is being often peddled seems to be pushing the rise in our health problems in the US. This is Just my opinion and in no way do I expect it to be everyone's but I wish our govt would be more proactive in some ways like other countries are and stand up for the people and our health.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
