Found this site a couple days ago, and decided to become a member. Lots of info here and many more people willing to share it. I see surgeon tomorrow, and hope to get a surgery date.

My final nutrition appointment is December 6, then I meet back up with the surgeon to finalize everything and set my date.

Hang in there girls and boys. I had my surgery May 1 and as of this week I was down 111 lbs. and I am not miss watch everything I eat and exercise all the time. I have been careful and do walking. You all can do it too! I have gotten rid of most of my medication for type 2 and other related stuff. Hang in there group. You can do it. The surgery is a great tool to help get your life back! I am down to the weight I was in freshman year of college and that was a long time ago. In short my oldest son turns 21 next month!

Wow congrats! I'm one week out tomorrow and down 11 pounds. My goal is to be off bp meds in Dec and 30+ lighter. It has been a week of ups and downs but I'm blessed with an awesome support group (family&friends). I know this will add years to my life and I'm thankful for the opportunity. Good luck to yall!

Wow that is awesome. When I first started I weighed well over 400. Let's just say the doctor scales wouldn't pick me up. I first did a mock liquid diet before I decided to actually have the surgery. I lost about 60 lbs then, but I didn't keep it off and didn't know how to do it the right way. I had a car wreck a few years back and broke my hip in 9 places and my pelvis in 2. I have been struggling with limited mobility. I am hoping that losing this weight will help me with pain levels. I am down to 333 I lost 31 lbs during the liquid diet. I have lost 70+ since my biggest.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!
