What Damage Have I Done?

Recommended Posts

I made a shake with skim milk, greek yogurt, ricotta and half a teaspoon of sugar.

lose.n.8

tough love can/is good

there are people that come here 3 days PO looking for absolution after they had 3 slices of pizza of a bag of oreos :o

i agree with the wise words from Amazon below

she did all the "right things" - and still had major problems PO (leak?)

"You made conscious decision to buy and prepare the foods you did. There is a reason you are required to follow a strict diet plan Have you heard of leaks? If you can't tough out two weeks of liquid Proteins how will you ever manage the rest of your life with the sleeve?" Amazon

there are people that come here 3 days PO looking for absolution after they had 4 slices of pizza or a bag of oreos :o

the shake consisting of milk, yogurt, et al hasn't done any damage

but.............you did make the wise decision to have this wonderful, beneficial, life changing surgery

please don't mess up now!!!!

the chicken Soup will arrive shortly, thats great

never be without something to drink (or eat) - going out looking for it, then being surrounded by temptations

you have 6 more days of Protein shakes (yeach!!!)

but you gotta drink them

gotta follow all the "rules"

get all your Water in (64 oz a day)

don't drink with your meals

stop drinking 30 minutes before you eat

don't drink for 45-60 minutes after you eat

other important stuff to follow and do also for the rest of your life

but you CAN do it :)

its good that you realized you shouldn't have made that shake (but at least it wasn't pizza!!)

read the boards, you will hear many different tales, stories, info :)

gather all the knowledge - then follow the right things

ask more questions

you WILL get much support here from your fellow sleevers

but as friends........we need to help you and tell you the truth , even if you might have done wrong

you can and will be successful - as long as you do what you know you are supposed to do :)

wishing you much good luck :)

kathy :)

My Dr. put me on a soft food diet after 7 days. Everything you mention was on my menu. I'm not a Dr., but I was fine so I think you are probably fine.

Today is day 10 post-op for me. I am having such a frustrating tearful time. Besides the gas with every sip of anything, I am having such a difficult time tolerating and getting down the Protein drinks. Since I have a sensitivity to artificial sweeteners I have been using shake brands with stevia. After my surgery I have been struggling with getting them down and averaging 20 grams of Protein and about 250 calories daily. This morning I had an unjury chicken Soup that my dietician gave me. I ordered the unflavored Unjury a couple days ago and can hardly wait for delivery.

So to make a long story not too long let me cut to the chase...I went to GNC looking for unflavored Isopure Protein powder. They didn't have any. Then I went to Walmart and nothing. I caved and went to the dairy section and grabbed low fat ricotta, low fat cottage cheese and Chobani's Plain Greek Yogurt. When I got home I made a shake with skim milk, greek yogurt, ricotta and half a teaspoon of sugar. This of course is not on the plan my doctor has me on. I am suppose to have 6 more days of protein shakes before I start with a pureed diet. Can anyone tell me the damage I am doing to my sleeve? Thanks so much for your help all.

Damage to your sleeve? don't be silly! I am almost 9 months post-op. Your body will tell you what you can handle. You know what sensible food is. You don't need anyone to remind or scare you. At first, I was able to tolerate soft foods, Soups, Jello, cottage cheese, etc. From there you will graduate to more solid foods.

Thus far, I have lost 92 pounds. I stay away from foods that contained refined sugar, anything fried, carbonated beverages and fast food. So far so good. Remember to eat slowly and chew your food well. The more you are able to walk, the faster your body will rid itself of the gas (trapped air during surgery).

Enjoy your journey!

Try this:

In a magic bullet:

Protein Powder (vanilla sweetened w stevia)

Frozen berries (Costco sells 3 berry, mango etc) I prefer berries due to their antioxidants.

greek yoghurt 0% fat

a splash of skim, Water or juice.< /p>

delish.

Had surgery on the 19th, came home 3 days later( Thurs). I was hospitalized on Monday for complications( Fluid on lungs). I went to my local hospital, not the hospital where I had the surgery. They had no Protein shakes, other than ensure( 9g of protein). I didn't want to waste calories getting so little Protein. They knew I was on a full liquid diet and would bring me oatmeal or cream of wheat in the morning. To me, it was better than nothing. It actually made me feel better to have a bit of carbs. No biggie, its not like she sat down to a full turkey dinner.

I'm sorry that you would come here looking for advice and be verbally attacked by some. I'm 17 days post op. It's rough, we question a lot of things. As for your question, you have done no damage. Every surgeon is different. Mine had me on a full liquid diet by 3 days post op and the items you used for your shake are all considered full liquids. My dr is very against Protein Shakes and in favor of chewing your food and getting your Protein in a more natural way. Don't beat yourself up. You can do this, everyday gets a little better and no worries your sleeve is fine.

Trying different brands of shakes is the way to go. You can order sample packs from unjury, Bariatric Advantage, BJs Bariatric, Nashua Nutrition, Bariatric Choice and many websites. Whether or not you like the shakes, you do have to get as much Protein each day as you can. Your body needs it to heal from the surgery.

Temperature can also be a factor; I liked mine really cold over ice, others do better with warm drinks like the Unjury chicken Soup. Its savory flavor is also a welcome change from all the sweet drinks. You can also add unflavored Protein powder to broth and many slider foods like yogurt.

You also need to increase your hydration towards the 64 oz per day target. Dehydration feels awful and can quickly become serious. This is the time to strengthen your resolve and do what needs to be done, not what you prefer.

I doubt you injured your pouch and applaud your effort to find a solution. Hope you will get together with your surgeon and NUT this coming week to get set on a plan that works for you. Take good care of yourself!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
