Question re:Throwing up from sickness

Recommended Posts

We just got back from vacation in Disney World and both my husband and I got sick with (probably) a virus that caused severe diarrhea and vomiting. I threw up at 60 minute intervals from midnight to 6 AM, when we finally decided to go to the hospital and get some medication to stop the vomiting. They did an xray and decided the band is still in the correct place, then gave me IV fluids and reglan to stop the GI problems and (at my request) a scrip for Phenergan to take later. That is what actually helped.

Questions: Will such violent retching actually hurt the band? What should I do in the future if such a problem happens?

Not sure about your question but it seems we just had the same virus. I spent the other night vomiting every hour or so myself and then this morning my fiance has the same problem:sick. I was actauly thinking the same thing you are though. When I get banded can something like this affect it?

Someone mentioned here (or another board) to get a prescription from your doctor to keep in the house for nausea due to something besides the ban (virus, flu, food poisoning, etc.). It starts with a P but wasn't Phenergan. I'm calling my doctor tomorrow to see what he can do.

Maybe it was Promethesine, (sp), which is the generic for phenergan.

I believe you're right :girl_hug:

Correct spelling (only because I looked it up):

promethazine

Yeah, I do actually have a prescription for Phenergan (generic: Promethazine) at home for my Migraines but, unfortunately, I was in Florida and the medication was in Illinois!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
