I am scheduled for lapband on 12/17/13 but I really think I want to get the sleeve. Can someone give me some idea of the pre-op requirements? I'm just trying to figure if I would have to go through some extra hurdles if I decide to switch to the sleeve. I have an appt with my surgeon on Thursday, I plan to discuss this with him, I hope he gives me some positive feedback.

I know numerous people who have done a band to sleeve. You will find surgeons require different pre-op diets. Mine was one week of two Protein Shakes and a small high Protein meal in the evening. Then the second week it was four protein shakes a day. The day prior to surgery it was only Clear Liquids. Your surgeon will be able to tell you what his plan is. Best of luck!

Thank you Bright_Eyes, I hope it's not too late to switch procedures. My insurance doesn't require pre-authorization for Bariatric surgery, so that part should be ok.

Changing procedures shouldn't be a problem. Most of the pre-surgical requirements are probably the same. They may have to connect with your insurance to change the procedure code, but if you've been approved for one procedure, you'll likely easily be transferred to another. Keep us updated!

My pre-op requirements: WLS seminar, visit with surgeon, letter from PCP both recommending me and clearing me for surgery, basic labwork, three-month (four visit) supervised diet with a nutritionist, psych eval, physical therapy (exercise) eval, and EGD. I have a 41 BMI, and my insurance approved on the first attempt within one day of my packet submission.

One more thing -- if you're weighing between the lapband and sleeve, you might spend a bit of time handing out in the band-to-sleeve revision threads. These are the folks that would have some real insight into your decision.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
