New to the board possibly getting banded

Recommended Posts

Hello there!

My name is Mike or Michael im 28 y.o and born and raised in Connecticut and now just recently moved to Oklahoma almost a year ago. I am currently 350+ pounds at 6 foot tall. Dont know my real weight because i dont have a scale to weigh that high :cry I was always overweight my entire life i have tried some random self diets nothing structured like Jenny Craig or anything of that sort. I used to play baseball in high school and college and other sports before that. Now that that is all over i really dont have that much exercise on a daily basis or in any form of regularity. Anyways i was told about this surgeory a little over a year ago and toyed with the idea but until recently i havent taken the steps in pursuing the necessary course of action. I work with a few people who have had this surgeory and i know for a fact taht the insurance with where i work does cover this witha $500 deductable. I was given a name of a doctor to call about 2 months ago, again uncertain as to wether or not i would entertain this life changing decision i just kept that name and number in my wallet. My brother just left Oklahoma and moved to Connecticut which is depressing due to the fact he was a big reason i moved out here. Me and him really didnt do anything while i was here and i want to have this surgeory not just for looks, not just for health, but also to have relationships with family and society in whole. My weight has seriously made me lazy and unwilling to even go out or do anything it sickens me that i have no will or drive to help myself. Anyways as i was thinking about the surgeory i said to myself i really need some sort of push or sign to decide to move on with it. I got that sign when i asked my dog if i should do the surgeory and as soon as i did Maggie jumped up on the couch and gave me a big ol' kiss :kiss2: So when Tuesday comes around (my day off) im going to give that doctor a call and take teh steps into changing my life. I will keep you all updated as to what happens though, hopefuly i can come here and have support from all of you and maybe in time i can also do the same for future members.

Sorry for the long post but ya :(

Mike

Mike, Good luck on your journey, whatever you decide. It will be the right decision for you. I just made this decision within the last 6 months, so I'm not so much help yet. I just got my surgery date, however. It is May 10 and I'm so excited. Good luck to you. I just found this website recently and really enjoy reading it. It sounds very encouraging.

Cindy

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
