I had my surgery on the 10 of September. I can honestly say so far I do not have buyers remorse. It is a permanent lifestyle change. But the benefits are huge. I am already running on the beach for 30 minutes with my dog. My energy levels are high. The second and third week after the opp I was tired and flat but I had lost a lot of weight in a short time. Just really crave coffee. But I am sure it will pass.

No buyer's remorse here. I had an easy recovery, little pain, no complications, and no stalls that lasted more than a week. I'm very happy with my experience so far - if I stopped losing today I would still be happy with my results. At only 5 months I have lost 70lbs and 12 pre-op for a grand total of 82lbs! I think it's not stopping yet. It's the only time in my life that I have LIKED my scale. :-)

Also, back, knee, and foot pain is gone! Cholesterol is within normal range and off meds. And energy is through the roof! Loving life now. :-)

Thanks AndreG and terry1118! I hope to be able to say the same after surgery! A friend of mine had similar positive experiences after his vertical sleeve surgery. But he was still using CPAP. Do you know if CPAP must be continued after surgery?

I had my CPAP for about two months following surgery. Most of that was just the time it took to schedule a new sleep study which showed the sleep apnea totally resolved.

Hey man, I'm a registered sleep technologist, like one of the people that did your other studies. From my experience, people that undergo wls 90% of the time will come off of their Cpap. The only time that they wouldn't is if there are other reasons that are causing their sleep apnea or if they don't have a drive to breath(central sleep apnea). After you hit a healthy bmi, I would suggest scheduling another study. Ask for a split night study...if you do need Cpap still it's likely that your pressure will be a lot lower and they can test you on a lower pressure that night.

I had it in the first few weeks but in my case, it really wasn't related to food so much as just the "foreverness" of the whole thing. "I actually had an elective surgery that literally changed the physiology of my body! OMG!"

It's actually kind of funny now but it wasn't at the time. Now it's "why did I wait so long??" I would do it again in a heartbeat! I'm living the life that not that long ago I did not believe would ever be possible. Just doesn't get any better than that!!

That's how I feel - the whole body change thing! I feel somewhat confident about the food adjustments, but also certainly scared of post-surgery regrets, changing what God gave me, physiology, etc. It doesn't seem natural (I guess it isn't!), but I also don't want to drop dead, and I'm tired of being tired and watching life pass me by!

You always seem to give such great, logical advice, by the way.

I only wish I had done this 6 years ago. Everytime I think I miss eating something or drinking soda, I remind myself that If I hadn't had WLS I would still be 300+ pounds, buying my clothes online, suffering from sleep apnea, painful heartburn and deppression. I am only about 4 months post-op but the changes have been remarkable. I love the fact that my new baby stomach makes nosies and cries out to me to feed it. I no longer live to eat. I am no longer concerned with shoving huge amounts of crappy food down my throat. I love the fact that my taste buds have changed and now I am trying new foods.

Congratulations on your success so far! Well done!

It's really none of my business but for what it's worth - no one is content being obese. And those who are - care. We all know better than most that being obese doesn't define who you are.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
