why do i keep eating!?

Recommended Posts

It seems like, for the past few weeks, I just keep eating. It scares me! I'm on the verge of crying. I've only lost 3 lbs in the past 3-4 weeks! Considering I'm only three months out, I should be losing more right now. I buy healthy, Protein foods bit eat too much. AND, I've realized sweets don't really bother me so, of course, I'm now eating junk again. I just ate a Brownie! Also, I need to exercise! And I know I have the same excuse you hear all the time ....but it's true! I get up at 6am, work from 8-5. After picking upy son, I gwr home around 5:45. Then I have to feed us and help with his homework and get his bath, etc. AND...I'm so tired by this point. I go to bed by 8/9. What do I do!?

I need some help and encouragement. I'm embarrassed and terrified that I'm going to fail at this. :,(

feeling tired can mimic hunger....try doing some negligable veggies or Water or fruit...stay away from the sweets, they will have your blood sugar all over the place and will cause you to feel hunger...go back to protein....friend me on fitness pal, i sent you a request..xxx

I hear ya - I am two months out, and have also found out that sweets don't really bother me much, but I am doing pretty good staying away. If I need a sweet fix I get a Chobani flip that has dark choch. Or candied pecans. The Protein is good, and the sugar is like 18. As for exercise - if you can take a walk on your breaks at work - or walk the stairs, even if it is only 15 minutes, its better than nothing. it will also make you feel good about yourself that you are accomplishing some exercise everyday. that is what i do - i have a 1 & 4 year old, so i understand being tired at the end of the day, and there is no way i can get up earlier to workout before the kids get up! This surgery is definitely not a silver bullet - we must change our relationship with food if we are to succeed! I want to friend ya'll on MFP - I don't have any......

I've read from other people that weight loss stalls can happen due to low Protein and can make you tired. You might want to try increasing that. As for exercise, try using a pedometer. It really motivates me to walk more, take the stairs, etc. I highly recommend fitbit. They are a little pricey, but I got one for my birthday and love it.

If anyone wants to friend me on myfitnesspal, I would love it- user cscholebo. Not really using it right now, 6 days post op, but I will soon.

I so agree with all this. Lots if carbs will never keep you satisfied. Your blood sugar drops soon afterward and you're back to being hungry. It helps me when I stick to mostly Protein and a lot of water:)

Your other option is to replace all the unhealthy crap with fruits, veggies, nuts, Protein Bars, sugar free Popsicles, fat free yogurt in various flavors, fat free broths, etc.

Until you train your mind to stop playing games with you, you will have all these better Snacks to fight back when you get desperate.

We are all human and make mistakes. No one here is the perfect WLS prototype.

Hang in there. You can do this!

Thanks everybody! I do pretty good during the day but it's when I get home that's an issue. I'll get back to using MFP again. It def helped. And I should try the pedometer. That's a good idea. :)

It's a new day...I'll try again!

Maybe you can work with a therapist and keep a journal about your emotions when you eat...

I understand exactly-- it's we always did--eating at night.

For me what works is that I make sure I have one treat in the evening. Last night I made an apple crisp with tons of apples that I tossed with cinnamon and topped with a 1/2 cup of butter 1 cup of oats, 1/2 cup of flour and a half cup of granulated stevia. Baked it. It made about 12 large servings and was yummy. I packaged it up in little containers and will warm it and have with some whipped cream.

I also drink tons of Water but I put about 2 ounces if unsweetened juice (grape is fav) to make it interesting.

I broke my stall by drinking more and making sure that I have one healthy treat a day and I never let myself get too hungry. I eat 1000 to 1200 calories a day and am 7 months out from surgery Lost 97.5 lbs

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
