Hi all.. I've been trying to do some research on Lap-Band and came across this forum. I'm about to get in depth into the threads, but there are a couple of questions I tried to google and could not find an answer for..

I'm 23, 6'0 and 330lb. I did the yo-yo dieting, my best success was with Atkins, but gained it all back plus some.. and then as of the past couple of months I went to a dietician and was put on a diet, and actually GAINED 30lbs. I don't know what's going on. So gastric bypass was my last resort, I've thought about it for some years now. It seemed so drastic, so I kept hmm'ing about it.. So last night I just can't stand the path I'm going despite my efforts and good intentions, and began to do more research, then discovered Lap-Band, how less invasive it is, that worst case scenerio if something goes wrong it CAN be reversed, and that it is done locally here.. and so now I've set up a meeting with a local doctor to get more information on it.

One thing I can't find an answer to, I plan to have kids in the next couple of years. Do they have to take it out for pregnant women? Are there health risks for mom or baby? Any information you guys have on this would be very helpful..

Also, I've been trying to find blogs of people who did this and wondered what you guys, not any sort of doctored testimony, how quickly or slowly you've lost weight?

Thanks in advance!

woops, I also wanted to ask.. from first doctor appointment, what is the time till you can get the surgery? I want it ASAP and even though my insurance covers it, I don't have the 'proof' they need for it, so we are going to pay for it ourselves. I'm ready to get this going.. I have been having such bad back problems for years now, and getting cortisone shots, they've worn off again and I want to fix the root of the problem.

I went in for my meeting with the surgeon on a Saturday and had the surgery the following Friday. I was self-pay as well. Yes, it will be fine for you to have children. All they will do is remove all of the Fluid around the band to allow you to eat for two. You won't have to get the band removed. Good luck - best thing I ever did!

Hi,

I'm new here. Just joined today. I was banded last wednesday. I'll have to keep you posted on how things go for me. I'm actually here to get some advice myself.

I paid cash for my surgery. I actually met my surgeon for the first time on January 2nd. I thought things moved fairly quickly. They wanted me to take my time and research things and make sure I wasn't rushing into anything. I had already done a lot of research, but I had to convince my family that I was really serious about this.

Let me know what you decide to do. Keep me posted and good luck!

Well, I'm 98% sure I am getting the surgery. The only 2% is if the doctor gives me a reason why I shouldn't. I have a kidney that is in the wrong spot, I don't see why this would matter, but I never know what it's going to affect.

I want to get it ASAP. I have an appt. with my back/pain doctor tomorrow to schedule more injections, and if I can get this Lap-Band quickly, I want to possibly hold off on getting more injections to see how quickly I could lose weight and stop the pain in my hips and back.

I'm glad I found this community, as I don't know anyone who has had banding (just gastric bypass) and I think this will be a great resource when I have questions or tough moments as I go along :girl_hug:

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
