Hi everyone!

Today I filled out a pre-op medical questionarre that was sent to me by surgeons office. I came across a question about my sleeping patterns and behaviours, I ticked that I snored and after looking up what somnolence meant, ticked that too and then we came to sleep apnea which I assumed I didn't have but when I looked that up discovered that I may be suffering from it as it appears to be a possible cause of the snoring and excessive daytime tiredness.

In a way I am relieved that there is a reason why i get sooo tired and that it's not down to laziness but at the same time I am worried about my health and concerned that this may affect surgery.

Anyone got any advice?

X katie

get a sleep study. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea about two years ago. Last summer I came in from mowing the yard and accidentally fell asleep without my cpap. I ended up going for a ride to the hospital in an ambulance because I woke up in atrial fibrilation. Long term untreated sleep apnea can result in heart problems.

Regards,

Keith

What is CPAP? I'm going up for my follow up to my sleep study soon and they already told me that I needed to start wearing a mask. I really don't want to though. Do you think that this means I have sleep apnea?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
