Recommended Posts

I think you'll find it funny how your cravings will change postop. I was always a huge Chinese food fan and thought that would be a constant nagging craving. But the first things I craved when I could eat soft solids was chicken and a little piece of a cheeseburger (no bun). Protein. Your body screams at you for protein! lol

I know how you feel, movie theater buttered popcorn is also a weakness of mine! But stand strong and fight that craving!

I find I'm craving things like salmon and really Protein rich food. Just something that has texture, crunch or even salty rice cakes. I don't crave anything I used to like Mexican food and Chinese. And best of all, I'm not craving diet coke at all.

I found that when I got to day 3 or 4 of my pre op liquid diet I started craving vegetables and meat. I think our bodies let us know what we need. My doctor let me have a small piece of lean meat and fresh veggies every 3rd day just to keep me sane. :)

I used to ask for extra butter at the movies! I also would pop a bag of buttered microwave popcorn and add a 1/3 of a stick of melted butter. No wonder I was chubby and cholesterol through the roof. Eventually I would have had a heart attack. I truly made a decision to think of carbs like crack to a drug addict. I crave them like mad. The one thing I've found that has helped me is Protein chips and I found a cracker that is high protein. The crunch is so satisfying. Bariatric Advantage had Snacks that are good!

I'm 10 months out now. So just something to look forward to when popcorn is allowed....I love Skinny Pop popcorn. It has 39 calories per cup. It is just popcorn, sunflower oil, and salt but it tastes like movie theater popcorn. Be sure to ask when you are allowed popcorn. For me it was 4 months post op

I loved Skinny Pop popcorn too. I was so hoping that popcorn would be one of those dense foods that I could only eat a small bit of (like chicken). Oh no -- 8 cups downed (yes I measured and recorded in MFP) before I got the hiccups.

So for me popcorn is a trigger food. It's not just that I crave it and can't stop eating it, but it makes me crave other carbs. Once I gave it up, I dropped another 2 lbs!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
