OMG, my favorite meat for grilling. Cut it in teeny tiny bites and chew chew chew?

I would talk to your medical team about this.

Even if they say it is fine, be careful with the size of bite and quantity. The stomach is the mechanical part of digestion and red meat is one of the toughest things to digest. 6 weeks is right at the time frame for lowering the risk of leaks, so, you are kinda on a tightrope there.

BTW, I was about 5 months before trying red meat, but I was pretty conservative with my food progression.

My surgeon said no to steak till 16 wks, and even then, to be very careful. I'd freeze it and wait. ;)

I'm 4 months out and still haven't tried red meat. Pork sits heavy, so I'm thinking steak will too.

We can do ground beef very easily. Almost too easily. But a hunka meat is tough. I end up cooking a lot of seafood which I now love because it doesn't hurt, has low calories and tons of Protein. When I make chicken it's either in the crockpot or the pressure cooker so it's soft and moist.

I am not a steak fan so the next time you get the craving, I wonder if you're just craving the taste of beef? In that case ground beef or crockpot beef stew might do the trick safely. Again, it's been so long since I had steak you could be laughing at my suggestions but hey I'm trying to be helpful :P

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
