If it's involving your mouth in anyway you"ll need to talk to the anesthesiologist who works separately from your surgeon.

I was a body piercer for years and would recommend looking for a barbell made out of PTFE. It is an implant grade nylon, x-ray and MRI compatible. It is very soft and flexible, get one that is really long, then trim it to fit, and when you screw the ball back on it is self threading. You can use the same stuff for any piercings, it comes in rings, barbells, and even labret studs for the lower lip, it has a flat disk in the back and then the ball on the front. I was able to leave my PTFE stuff in for my surgery. Since it was flexible, and would not get in the way of the breathing tube etc. And then I didn't have to worry about trying to put it back in with an IV in my hand, and the anesthesia clouding my head. Also it will not show up for your swallow test the next day. I know Hot Topic and Spensers sells PTFE, sellers on Ebay have it and I'm sure some local tattoo shops would have it or can get it. I think you cheapest option would be ebay if you have the time to wait for it to come in. Hot Topic is expensive and has a limited selection. It is also listed as Bio-plast, or flexi-plast. It will say something to the effect of bendable, or flexible. Just DON'T get the retainers with O-rings, they WILL NOT let you wear them into surgery. There is too great of a risk of the o-ring coming off and you swallowing it or it dropping into an incision. I have had many many clients come in for me to re-pierce them because they have had to take retainers out for surgery. The pieces need to have a ball that SCREWS into place. Here is a link to what I am talking about on ebay. (not my listing)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
