OMG ... Surgery tomorrow and I just started Aunt Flo

Recommended Posts

How is that going to work? Do I need to bring pads or tampons or will they supply? What about during surgery? UGH ... this couldn't have come at a worse time.

When you are being prepped, let the doc and nurses know, as a warning. Also, be sure to change the tampon as close to surgery as possible. Luckily, seasoned surgical staff have seen it all and always have a plan to help the patients with these annoying things that seem to come at the worst time possible. This happened to me when I had one of my knee surgeries, so I feel your pain. Good luck for tomorrow - it will be great!

I was just lucky enough to get off the day before. My sister in law however had a bypass a month after mine sleeve and was on her period. She had to use pads. They wouldn't let her use a tampon she was not impressed. I suggest bring some of each just incase. But I think they are ready for anything! :) Good luck tomorrow you'll do great!

Hmm, definitely take both options just in case tampons aren't allowed. I've never been allowed to have underwear during surgery, so pads would not have worked for me.

I made sure to tell them when I first got to the back. They had me put on a pair of the wonderful mesh panties (please take note of sarcasm) and one of their pads, they didn't allow tampons. It's really no big deal. The only thing that sucked for me was that I usually have mine for 6 days and instead I had it for about 12 which I'm guessing was due to the blood thinners they had me on.

I think my period is going to fall on the same time as well... Lol

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
