Narcolepsy - Does anyone else suffer from it after they eat?!

Recommended Posts

It is weird.. During the day I'm fine, but the moment I have my dinner I just cannot stay awake. I literally spin out and pass out. 30 minutes sleep and I'm good to go, however I don't want this to be the state of play for the rest of my days.

Can you imagine it?! You go out for dinner with friends and you promptly want to pass out face down into your dinner plate?!

It's like I've reached my dotage. Blue plate specials because I have to be in bed by 19:30hrs...

Not groovy!

I used to have the same problem, but in the morning at work. (pre-surgery). I would have a bagel at 8:30 and be asleep at the desk by 11. Found out that I am gluten intolerant. Hope you don't have that issue. It sucks! I miss Bagels, but not as much as I enjoy being smaller. :)

Hmm.. you may be onto something there.. I have IBS and have always know that bread is not always good for me. Thing is, I can't imagine life without bread. Its my most favourite thing in the world :(

I did have a sizeable dinner.. I am only 4.5 weeks out and during the day I can eat little. During the evening, the capacity seems to increase. This capacity worries me...

This description sounds like my pattern too.

My sleeve relaxes in the evening also.

I wonder if we should eat early in the day and then perhaps we will not be so "empty" towards the end of the day.

I am several months past you.

I have no idea.. But as it stands, I can eat every 2.5 hours.. and feel it if I don't. This is not head-hunger. This is running around and then wooosh, the batteries run flat. Like seriously flat. I am seeing my nutritionist on the 28th, so I hope he can come up with something. I have not been sick once since surgery. Have had a couple of mouthfuls get stuck because I didn't chew it well enough; but I've not 'pushed it' and had an adverse reaction. Consequently, I wonder when it comes to the evening 'when is full, actually full?' Seems like a silly question, but I do worry that I am stretching my sleeve...

Not silly. I wonder the same thing. I read here we are not supposed to get full. But stop at pre- full lol! Get the sleeve it will lake you get full easier but don't eat until full because that's bad!

Perhaps they should of given us a see through patch on our stomachs so we can gauge when it is exactly that we have eaten the just right amount!

Too right.... I'm finding this all largely based on guess work... Consequently, I'm thinking; if I eat little during the day, am I okay to eat properly (or more substantially) at night? Is it anything carb related that makes me sleepy? Or is it the quantity? I shall certainly be asking for some definites from the professional on the 28th. We were told 'don't focus on calories - focus on protein'.. Well, what if that 'focus' is a veritable mountain of Protein through the afternoon and evening?!

Oh, I give up!

Funny that you both say that hunger at night is more......I have the same issue. Not hungry during the day and have to force myself to eat. At night I feel like I am never full or full for a short period then hunger strikes again. Strange!

i am just over 3 months out and get super tired after I eat (except Protein shakes), but it passes after 10 minute or so. I asked my nut last week about this and she said she had never heard this before.

This has happened to me a couple times. Write down what foods you ate and keep track. see if there is a pattern. Im 8wks out, this hasn't happened in 2 Weeks. But I avoid gluten now.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
