C-Pap question

Recommended Posts

If anyone has been about to come off their c-pap, I was just wondering how much of your excess weight did you lose before you didn't need it? And did you have to adjust to the quiet when you no longer needed it?

I have had mine for about 5 years and still find that I "fight" it at night, but I can not fall asleep without it.

I have been on mine for about 7 years. I've lost just over 50 pounds but find it very difficult to try and sleep without it. I think I have become so dependant on it that I'm afraid to take it off. I'll just have to keep trying.

My sleep doc said that he usually titrates the CPAP down one number for approx. every 20 pounds lost. So for example, I was titrated to 10 for the past 3 years. Once I lost 20 lbs. I was titrated to 9. I'm not really sure at which number you officially don't need the CPAP anymore.

Anyone else know?

I still use mine but I have found that i am taking it off at night more in my sleep. I think what wakes me up then is the quiet. I haven't noticed any effects from pulling it off. i will wake up later and put it back on. I think part of the problem is the fit of the mask since my face is smaller then before but I am in a small mask now. I have had my cpap for aboput 8-9 yrs and am making an appointment to get retested this week. Hopefully it will be totally gone.

I have only been on the C-pap for about a year, but after my surgery my doctor told me to call her once I had lost 52 pounds(that is apparantly a certain percentage of my body weight). When I hit that mark, I called her, and just last week did an overnight pulse-ox test on room air to see if I can be freed from the machine. I still don't know the results of the test yet, but I have not actually worn it for about the last month. I feel like I am sleeping better without it. When I was wearing it, it really started to bother me--especially a burning sensation in my nose. So, I am not wearing it now, and hoping that the doc says that it is okay to return it for good!!

If you need the noise, try the White Noise Machine sleep Mate by Marpac. 980-A Latest Model. Amazon sells it. I've used this for years and it puts out about the same amount of noise (maybe a little less) than my c-pap did. I love it!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
