Denise 0 Posted March 4, 2007 I know that is has been probably asked before---but I have to go on a pure liquid diet for two weeks after surgery. Can I have cream based Soups? :hungry:
robinlwade 0 Posted March 4, 2007 What my dr instructed was Clear Liquids the first week then I could add slimfast and cream Soups the 2nd week, I also could have sugar free Jello, sugar free popicles and sugar free fudgecicles.
waitingtiljan 0 Posted March 4, 2007 I had to do only clear for 2 weeks..anything you can see through. The next 2 weeks I could have pureed creamed Soups. I'd ask your doc exactly what you can have.
TerriDoodle 6 Posted March 4, 2007 Yes, ask your doctor what he prescribes. My doctor's protocol seems to be entirely different than most here....and yet he is one of the most experienced in the country! So there are many differences among the various surgeons. I'm sure you'll get complete instructions before surgery (so that you can stock up)...if not, call the office and get them. You're paying a lot for this surgery and you should get good service from your doctor and their staff. Make sure ALL your questions are answered to your satisfaction! lessofme 1 Posted March 4, 2007 Sounds like everybody's definition of "liquid diet" is a little different. I'm sure you'll get information (written) from your Dr. on this prior to your surgery. Everyone in my pre-surgery seminar were told that clear liquids does not mean "see through"..liquids. I promise you, clear bouillion will get very tiresome for two weeks! broth from canned Water based Soups such as vegetable beef, chicken noodle etc. will feel much more substantial than bouillion. Just heat it up with everything in it, strain and toss all but the broth and it tastes great. I really needed something hot for lunch and dinner and felt I deserved a real can of Soup with seasonings since that's almost all I could eat. Only problem is you'll probably be pretty hungry fairly soon afterwards. I would find myself starving in the middle of the night, shaking a little, so I'd get myself a small glass of OJ which was enough to get my blood sugar up a bit and stop my stomach from growling. Good luck! Be sure to get as many calories as you can in the clear liquid stage. Banded 2/12/07 First fill coming up on the 19th of March! Yippee
QTkidsmom 0 Posted March 4, 2007 I had my surgery 4 months ago with the best doc in Cali. I was able to eat cream based Soups the first week, but trust me, it needs to be thin and you will only want a few spoonfuls. I liked sucking on sugar free fudgicles (Spelling?) It is not much but they do have a few grams of protien each. You will be excited to get protien anywhere you can find it. I am sure that you have heard that. keith40 0 Posted March 4, 2007 I am in the middle of my pre-op clear liquid diet. I have my surgery this coming Thursday, March 8th. I find that I am no longer suffering from starvation from the diet, but I am suffering from bordom. I think when this is all over, I will never want chicken broth again. rdbiles@sbcglob 0 Posted March 5, 2007 After surgery I was on a full liquid diet for 6 days, which includes creams, anything that will go through a strainer. The second week I started a soft diet.
lindsay 0 Posted March 9, 2007 I am in the middle of my pre-op clear liquid diet. I have my surgery this coming Thursday, March 8th. I find that I am no longer suffering from starvation from the diet, but I am suffering from bordom. I think when this is all over, I will never want chicken broth again. :help: I am on pre-op liquid diet now... how long before you no longer felt like you were starving? I'm only on my 3rd day of liquids with 9 more to go. :think
lapband4meNOW 0 Posted March 9, 2007 Ask your doctor. I was allowed cream based Soups and full liquids after surgery. No clear liquids needed after surgery. Every doctor is different.
FurEllie 0 Posted March 10, 2007 The nutrition doctor told us - Clear liquids until at least day 3, then you could add store bought liquid yoghurt. No creamy Soups until after a week and you have to make sure to strain the "bits" out. Basically they are trying to keep you from PBing so you don't screw the band up while the stomach is healing. She also said patients were having trouble with Jello so they've removed that from the "OK" list for the first 3 weeks.
lrw26 0 Posted March 10, 2007 The dietitian who explained it all to us was pretty specific that proior to surgery liquid had to be abything you can see through. No creamy Soups. I had to be on liquids five days before surgery. I guess it varies from doctor to doctor.
lrw26 0 Posted March 10, 2007 I think the pre op liquid was the hardest of all since there was no band and I was starving... I never did well on liquids so for me it was really hard but I lived though it and after a few days it became better. Good luck :help: I am on pre-op liquid diet now... how long before you no longer felt like you were starving? I'm only on my 3rd day of liquids with 9 more to go. :think

lrw26 0 Posted March 11, 2007 I am 8 days past surgery and my doctor said next week or so that is okay, to try and see how you tolerate it. I am extra nervous as I don't want to mess anything up but I think I will try some next week. It seems that various doctor's have a variety of protocols with some common factors. I know that is has been probably asked before---but I have to go on a pure liquid diet for two weeks after surgery. Can I have cream based Soups? :hungry:
