Check with your doctor, because I've heard that they don't recommend restrictive garments for a while after surgery during the healing process. Especially while the incisions are healing. If you're talking about what to wear weeks and week after surgery, that's probably a personal choice depending on what fits you best! :) So far what I've found is not to really pre-buy anything - wait until you actually need it. (I start my 5th week post op tomorrow and am donating Soups and whey powder to whoever will take it. I seriously over bought pre-op). Good luck tomorrow!

I would reccomend waiting until you are post op and trying things on as you go. I learned the hard way no stocking up on ANYTHING post op, because I found I usually wasted my money!!

I am 4 months post op and just bought my first tank type Spanx for the loose skin. I would definitely wait! Good luck with your surgery! :)

I also recommend waiting- it will be several weeks after surgery before you are healed enough to wear them, and by then you might be down a size or two and what you bought won't fit. Also, you won't see loose skin for a few months, and it is hard to predict now what size you might be, or if you will even need them.

Don't stock up!

Things will fit differently, your body will look and feel different, you'll loose weight faster some places than others, etc etc etc.

I didn't wear Shapewear until 3-4 months post op, I think. It really didn't make much of a difference before that, other than the smoothing that I wore it for before surgery.

Good luck!

I like Silkies footless tights, and have worn Spanx before, too.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
