Not at all. And who says you cannot have sugar again? Moderation.

My cravings have totally changed. I used to LOVE sweets and potatoes, rice, and bread. Oh my!

But now my cravings are usually for red meat. Go figure. But seriously, I think it's really cool.

I have no cravings post-op. I was amazed at the whole change in my thoughts about food. I still deal with wanting to eat when I'm bored, but it isn't a craving for any particular flavor. I can be just as satisfied with a boiled egg or my Beans and turkey meat combo as I would have been pre-op when I wanted a burger and fries.

But you can eat sugar post-op. I don't think there is any food I can't eat - it did take months before my stomach stopped complaining about some foods like pineapple, but processed foods like Pasta and sugar went down with ease.

So it's not that you can't have sugar, but that you will be eating so few calories that each food choice has to have as much nutrition in it as possible. And sugar is definitely an empty calorie.

I'm a little over a week out and struggle to even get in the calories and Protein I need. Try Stevia. It's all natural and healthy. Although it does have a little after taste. You get used to it.

9 months post op and artificial flavorings and soda turn me off. Find ones with natural flavors, Crystal light has an all natural flavor lemonade! I enjoy not wanting things that aren't good for me!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
