My Lap Band Surgery was 10-14-2003. I just found this site, but don't really know how to use it yet. I'm feeling kind of lost. I'm having a hard time getting enough food down so doing mostly Protein Shakes. Do I need to wait 30 minutes to drink Water after having a prorein shake? Have not had a single followup call from my sureon's office.

For the most part, surgeons don't do follow-up phone calls. They should have told you to call and make an appointment.... Usually they want to see you two weeks after surgery. And, yes, you shouldn't be eating ANYTHING solid yet.

Thanks! Every little bit helps. My post op diet for the first 2 weeks is supposed to be "Liquid Pureed" It's the 30 minute wait that was hard to work in, but, silly me, it's ALL liquid.< /p>

Yes, the liquid rule only applies when you are on regular food again, not during the liquid diet. It's okay, I wondered the same thing then remembered WHY I couldn't drink right away and that nothing would change after I drank a shake then drank some Water. In fact, when you are on all liquid the best thing you can do is keep drinking something all day, it keeps you full and busy and less hungry for food.

Good luck =)

I had the same problem of a bad taste in my mouth after drinking the Protein or Soup, I solved chewing a grape without skin right after I finish drinking.

Ask your surgeon , unless they gave you the post op diet instructions if not look up the post op diet week one , then go from there.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
