How Do You Feel About Your Bypass?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys. I currently have a band and I'm having a revision on 10th October. I was all set for a sleeve but having seen my bariatric nurse today, I'm considering a bypass. My mum thinks I should have the bypass as I'm a grazer and the sleeves don't help as much with that - also I read a report that said the standard advice for people revising from bands was for them to go to bypass. I'd really like to hear people's experiences of their bypass, good and bad to help me make a decision. Thanks :-) Lx

Had revision from band to bypass on 9/11/13. Only had apx 58 lbs to lose and I'm losing a pound a day. Wish I had done this in the first place, rather than going through another surgery.

I was set to have a sleeve, but reconsidered after noting the relatively little long term data on it.

I chose bypass over sleeve because my surgeon (excellent surgeon) advised that bypass is better for people who like baked goods. I am 11 months post op and pleased with the decision.

I, too, was concerned about the lack of long term data on the sleeve. In the end, I wanted the tried and true, gold standard of weight loss surgery that offered me the very best chance of success. I only get one shot at WLS and I wanted the best. Now I feel like I've won the lottery and am very happy with my decision!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
