Think I am leaving this board

Recommended Posts

Amen, Nana!

I participate in a number of online communities besides LBT and it always makes me laugh when someone feels the need to exit with a dramatic "goodbye forever" post. First off, most of the people who read such a message have no idea who that person is or what she's talking about. Secondly, the person who left the message ALWAYS comes back to see how everyone reacted to their thinly veiled f-you message. Always.

Good, bad, or indifferent, everyone here has the right to speak their mind. If someone thinks Dahlia is throwing a pity party for herself, they have the right to say so. If Dahlia thinks everyone here is an uncaring biatch, she has the right to say so. As with any online community, we are all strangers to some degree and that makes it easy to misinterpret things that people say.

Bottom line is, this is supposed to be an enjoyable activity. If you're not having fun, leave. Lash out if you must, but it serves no useful purpose. There's a lot more to stress out about than comments from a total stranger on the internet.

AMEN!!!!!!!

I have to say that I don't understand why people make threads stating that they are leaving, and then never fail to show up later in the thread. It comes across as very "goodbye cruel world!" to me. It really shows that the entire thread was nothing more than a cry for attention, which is probably mimicking the same behavior that originally got her "flamed" (or so she says; we have no evidence beyond her claim that she got nasty PMs).

Threads like this one really are pointless. You can PM or email the people you like and let them know you are leaving. The rest of the people on the board don't matter. If they don't like you, they aren't really going to care that you're leaving.

Like I said earlier, this board will provide support if you really want it. That support isn't necessarily going to come in the "Yes, Dear. Anything you say, Dear." variety, though. People will tell you if they think what you are doing or saying is dangerous to yourself or if they think you are throwing a pity party for yourself. No matter what you are going through, I am sure that there are people here that have also been through it. They CAN help you, you just have to ask for it.

Wow, I haven't been here for a while and come back to major controversy. First off, shouldn't this thread be in the Rants and Raves section? Secondly, I have been on this board for about a year now. Everyone here helped me during the decision process, the surgery, my port flipping and continue to help. I have found nothing but wonderful support and people here. Sure, there are occassionally some less than helpful people, but you are going to find that anywhere you go. Some people just like to stir the pot. As for leaving, if you are not happy, then just leave. Starting a thread just to announce you are unhappy and leaving is being dramatic, in my opinion.

Thanks for all the support goodbye

Maybe NOW the thread can be killed? It was a three day 'good bye'.

No, honestly this thread should be stickied.

As a testament to how NOT to leave Lapbandtalk.com!!! LOL.

No kidding. At other boards I used to be at, we would laugh about the "goodbye cruel world!" posts, because invariably the poster would be back. A lot of the time, they came back as "sock puppets" under another screen name and pretended to be completely different people.

OK Now guys, I am going to vent on this! There are many of you that I am not so happy with. But I will address you as a whole and you will know if I mean you!

Yes, maybe she needed some attention, but do you think being RUDE and MEAN is the answer? There are a few that I once respected that have lost it.

When someone does this, they are crying out for help basically. You don't ahve to provide support at that point if you don't want to, but why verbally stone someone? If this is frustrating to you when someone does this I have a simple answer...don't respond! Being rude or mean is just pointless and adding to the fact that some people do not think this is a supportive place!

:) :scared: :D

Removing my former message, because I don't want to be accused of being "unsupportive". But really, this is getting funny.

Bye Dahlia, good luck with your band, and good luck finding a support group you feel at home with. Take Care.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
