How are you guys picking your target weight? It's hard because normal weight charts are pretty much useless in this situation. I know from past experience that when you lose all this weight there is still extra weight from the loose skin. At 173 my doctor said I was done and not to lose more. That seems like such a high weight but really, I looked good at that weight! So, how do we pick a good goal? I'm guessing just set a higher weight and adjust accordingly? Ideas anyone?

My doctor told me I could lose as much as I wanted if I set my mind to it. I'm aiming for 170, that would tuck me in to the appropriate bmi range.

I'd be happy just being under 200 though.

I hear that! I looked pretty good at 170 really, and, my doctor said to stop. Although right now it seems a mile away, it also seems like a big number. I'm going to stick with it though for now.

I had set 165 as my goal. Dr said 170... I'm now maintaining 147... Go with what looks good

I agree. I like setting my goals in my head as every five pounds so that I frequently hit my goal rather than really dwelling on the final number. It makes me feel good when I hit a goal so frequently.

I intentionally never set a goal weight and interestingly, neither my surgeon nor any of her staff ever suggested one. I decided some time prior to my surgery that I was going to follow the protocol as closely as I possibly could and let my body tell me when it was at the weight it wanted to be at. Thirteen months and 130 lbs later my weight stabilized at 155 lbs and that's where it's been ever since (153.6 this morning). I can't offer any clinical support for it but I believe that when you allow your body to tell you where it wants to be, it's much easier to maintain that weight going forward.

I set my goal at 170, that would be a nice weight for me...plus I was that size before kids:) (maybe a bit smaller)

Maybe I set my GW too high. I'll be happy at 190-200.

I don't have a goal weight. My goal is to be at a healthy weight for my age (53) and height (5ft).

If I HAD to choose a goal weight I'd probably pick around 135. I was 115 before I had children and I was down to 150 a couple times in the past 15 yrs. 130-135 is sort of in between and seems reasonable for a woman my age. But right now I am content with feeling better physically. Anything else is gravy... :-)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
