I just got home today and have been crying all day. I can't tell if I'm full of liquids or if its gas. And I'm being ugly to my family bc they can eat and I can't. Please give me some advice!!!!

Well, speaking only for me, the doctor warned me that my emotions would plummet to a pity party because of pain, adjustment, jealousy, pain meds leaving the body, and fat loss hormone release. For me, I have to remember that I made the educated choice to have this procedure (& sometimes still when I am puking I hit the doldrums big). Remember it is all a journey and this is simply a temporary state. You will feel better physically and mentally down the road. Not everything happens in the here and now.

Give yourself a break and allow yourself to feel but do your best not to alienate those closest to you who simply don't know what to do to make it better. You can, will, and now must do this. The group is here to walk you through our experiences. Just my story for what it's worth.

We all go through an emotional roller coaster. Just focus on why you're doing this. Believe me, when you step on the scale next week you'll be happier. If you're anything like me you probably feel a little lost. I ate waaaaay more than I thought I did and I ate when I was bored, sad, happy, or whatever.... when that option is taken away you feel lost. Take the time to figure out what your new obsession will be. I know I watched a thousand YouTube videos of people's weight loss journeys... perhaps you could document your own. Just remember, you're not alone. It's normal to feel the way you are. Dont blame others for your emotions. Take one day at a time and before you know it you'll be looking in the mirror at a whole new person. A happier, healthier, sexier person.

I cried for what seemed like ever! It's such a change in 3 days. I cried watching food commercials.

My advise

This too shall pass

If you have to stay in your room and cry, journal, cry, and sleep. Oh and drink your water!

I agree with everyone. I cried too, but food grossed me out so I didn't miss it. I stayed in the bed a lot resting watching tv and sleeping I had a lot of pain. Walk as much as possible it really helps with the gas. Best Wishes :)

Thanks so much everyone!! Tonight was my first night home and I think I just got overwhelmed. Then I had my mom and husband eating a yummy dinner so I had to go to my room. And cry more. Plus I feel like I'm taking it out on the only 2 people who truly love me. I appreciate the advice and will def use it. Thanks again :)

Its important to remember that you are the one who chose to have the surgery, not your family, and remember your reasons for doing so. Your family will continue to eat what they will and you have to be strong and keep your "eye on the prize"! My husband had chinese for supper last night and I said that sometimes I hate that I cant eat what I want. He said, " do you hate that you have lost over 50 lbs in 3 months?" Of course I dont! We will FOREVER have those feelings but our reasons for having this life changing surgery should outweigh them. Best wishes and hang in there. Be nice to your family! They are the only family youve got! ;)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
