This is true. My doc did a nicotine test the day of my surgery.

I'm not a smoker but in my nurse education class they warned smokers that they test the morning of surgery. If you test positive it can push your surgery out three months. They are very serious about not smoking before surgery. The risks are real and serious. Blood clots can kill you.

She might stop. My doc didn't require me to quit and I had no intentions to quit. But when I was discharged I had no desire to smoke and didn't even wanna see a cigarette.

And I've been smoke and alcohol free for almost 6 months now.

My doc tested my nicotine level the day of surgery. They don't like to operate on smokers because nicotine lowers the body's healing abilities, and with obese people, our bodies already have so many complications, doctors are serious about eliminating as many negative factors as they can.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
