Band to bypass scheduled!

Recommended Posts

So excited my hubby got on board with me having the revision! i am self pay, so it is a significant investment in me, and I did not really "prove" myself with the band when I gained back all I lost over the past several years!

August 19 is the birth of a new me. - I hope!

My story is similiar to you. I had the band 3 years ago lost 70 pounds. The band slipped and I had nothing but problems, acid reflux, heartburn.. Now I am going to have RNY a self pay, hoefully in August. My husband has been been on board all along. If I am happy he is happy. If you dont mind me asking how much do you have to pay? Mine will cost 16K. I am in Cincinnati. Please keep us posted. i am excited for you.

Life with an RNY is so different then the band was!!! I feel so much better! I'm not dropping as quick as others but a steady 10 pounds a month, an I feel good at the same time, and can eat real food, and never throw up or have reflux....it is awesome!!! So excited for both of you!!!!

16k is awesome! I am in Atlanta and it will be nearly 22k for the removal of the band and revision (all one surgery) including 2 nights in the hospital.

I, too, am a band to bypass patient. So far, my RNY has been a breeze compared to the band. With my band, I couldn't even get liquids down much before 2 pm, much less any food! Now, I don't have to wait for my pouch to "open up," but I can drink anytime and eat normal healthy food slowly. With my band, I was only able to get high calories foods down (shakes, cheese dip, creamy soups). My experience has been so much better. I paid $19,500 for my surgery. I could have done it for $17500, but chose to go with the more experienced and one of the most reputable surgeons in Texas which 2k more. I have no complaints. I'm 5 weeks out and down 30 lbs. Good luck to ya!

Oh gosh I had completely forgotten about letting my band 'warm up'. I was the same way often not eating or barely drinking anything until one or two in the afternoon. That and the food shuffle. Pushing food around on my plate so people wouldn't notice I couldn't eat even tho I was starving. Worst feeling ever!! So far I am thrilled with my RNY. 7 weeks out today. I am a very slow loser but all the reflux and food games are done.

Kcarr: the 16K I will pay is for the RNY alone. My insurance covered the lap band and the removal. I wish they covered the RNY since the success rate is much higher. After reading some of the quotes I see where most RNY patients believe the RNY is more easily incorporated into a routine. Good luck to all of you and please keep us posted with progress.

Hello All! I was banded in '09 and was having issues as well as not losing and gaining even being tight. My Dr. want me to convert to either sleeve or bypass (sleeve being his preference I believe). Anyway it was my preference. I was scheduled for pre-op this week and band removal on the 6th of this month. Due to my B/P that's too high, He wants me to get a clearance from my personal Dr. I'm glad I took time to check out these posts while waiting for my appt. b/c I'm finding out that there are some folks that still have to have bypass after being sleeved. I regret that I chose the band over bypass anyway, so even though my Dr. said that I could still convert to bypass if the sleeve doesn't work out, Why not just go with the bypass. Anyone else feel this way? I need help with this b/c my weight is at 215 right now and my diabetes is climbing along w/ all of my other numbers.

Well, off to see my personal Dr. tomorrow in hopes of getting my pressure down and for a clearance for bypass. This has been a long time in the making and I'm ready to change my life for the better. I've had my band for 4 years now and no weight loss in 3.5 years. Some of you had it done in one procedure and I'm hoping that I could too. But even if I can't, I'm ready to get it when I can. Thanks for your support and your posts. It's the boost I needed.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
