Pray for a scope this week

I talked to several nurses in my surgeon' office 3 weeks ago and they believe I have a stricture. I have had to go back to liquids since then. They told me my surgeon won't do a EGD until we are 6 weeks post. I will be 6 weeks this Thursday. I'm planning to call tomorrow to see if they will schedule me finally.

You know... I could deal with the vomiting when things get stuck. The pain though is nearly unbearable! It's getting steadily worse and when I drink now I feel the pain though its tolerable unlike when I have anything that's not a total liquid. Even puréed foods cause crazy pain.

The other night I had to make my best friend pull over so I could puke on the side of the road! I really think if they won't schedule me I may go crazy.

Would you mind sharing more about your symptoms? All of a sudden I'm not able to eat but about am ounce of cottage cheese and only with mills salsa on it. I chew every baby spoon that i eat at least 25 times...and i do count. Now I'm having even Water feel like its getting stuck. I tried to eat tonight and have been miserable and vomiting. I wasn't able to eat even a teaspoon. I'm now eating only once a day and maybe an ounce total. I'm also struggling with my Protein shake and i actually love it.

If you feel like things are getting stuck especially Water then you should probably call your surgeon.

You really need to be eating more than once a day... there is no way you are getting enough calories and Protein that way. Not that I'm getting enough either but I've known that my doctor won't do anything until 6 weeks post. Don't get me started on how upset I am about that.

For me the pain is the worst part. It feels like someone is squeezing under my rib cage as hard as they can and the pain radiates around my rib cage to my back. I feel like I can hardly breath and the whole time I'm feeling food sitting in my throat. Sometimes it comes all the way back up and sometimes it doesn't. It started on just a few items and then progressed to pureed and like I said now I'm feeling this way with liquids too.

One of the nurses I spoke to a few weeks ago honestly had the nerve to tell me that if I got too bad dehydrated to go to the ER for fluids. Seriously? Are ya'll going to pay that bill?

I've called them and left a message to set up the scope and I'm praying they can get me in this week finally.

Good luck to you!

Left a message for a nurse at 9am. It's nearly 6pm and NO one called me back. I am beyond angry with my surgeon's office at this point.

I know how you feel. I am waiting for the Dr's office to call me back as well. I had an upper GI done on Friday and the MD doing the procedure confirmed that I have a stricture. I called after I got home from the test and the office said that they already had the test results and that someone would call me. Called again this morning and same story of having someone call me. it's gotten progressively worse. i started feeling on Sunday night that liquids were getting stuck as well so I'm sipping everything and hoping the liquid will go through the opening.

I hope they get back to you soon and you get scheduled. I'm so frustrated that they couldn't just give me a call back to review test results and discuss next steps. I'm worried that if I stop being able to hold down liquids that I'm going to have to go to the ER.

Just called again and left another message- receptionist said she'd tell the nurse to check the voicemail this time. It shouldn't be this hard to get in touch with someone!

I don't know about you but I honestly feel sometimes as though now that I'm post-op they don't care as much. Pre-op they needed to reel me in and get my money but now that they have been paid they just don't seem to care as much. I might just be too emotional since I've been dealing with this but I don't feel like they'd really tried to help me.

I hope we both get our strictures fixed soon so we can eat! And drink.... I'm dehydrated and have been for weeks. I probably should have gone to the ER a few times but my veins are really hard to find... add dehydration to that mix and I just know they'd have to stick me many many times. Just the thought of that has kept me from going.

Well I finally got in touch with them.... no one ever did call back today either but I emailed the head RN and she got my coordinator involved.

Dr wants me to go to the ER tomorrow and they will run barium test and Upper GI. Then they will page him with the results and decide what to do. Going to the ER just seems really stupid to me but I'll do whatever at this point to get some relief! I've already told my boss I'll need to leave early so I can do this. I'm so happy that they are finally going to do something for me after 3 weeks.

I feel the same way!! I had complications after surgery. I laid in a hospital bed for 2 days before my surgeon finally shagged his ass in to see me.

I'm actually sitting in the ER as I type because I'm having all of your same issues. Can't even sip Water without pain. 15ml hydro condone isn't helping the pain, nor is nausea medicine helping at all. ER doesn't think I'm a priority. Nice huh?

Oh no! Guess I have that to look forward to tomorrow then. I have zofran and phenergen and they didn't help with the nausea either. Its not typical nausea though... things are coming back up or feel like they are regardless of the medicine you take. There is just no where for the food/drink to go and no amount of anti-nausea meds are going to force the food down.

Hopefully they will get to you soon and fix you up. I know how awful the pain is.... feels like someone is squeezing as hard as they can around your rib cage. It's nearly unbearable. Feel better!

Well, this ER dr thinks it may be a marginal ulcer. Possible. He is going to have me drink some things and see if it helps. He doesn't think stricture because its so soon.

So they have done gastrografin test and barium tablet. The tablet test showed what they think is a stricture. My pee was brown and they think I have a UTI as well. So they are starting antibiotics and I'm on fluids as well.

They are admitting me probably for the night. They are looking at doing the EGD in the morning to correct the stricture.

I don't want to stay but I am glad they are going to fix me!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
