I have questions about recovery time. How long after surgery do you usually stay in the hospital? How long does it take before you can do basic things such as walking and driving?

It all depends how you do individually.. I spent one day in the hospital and I was able to walk a few hours after surgery. They get you up and you walk the halls a lot if you are smart. When you go home it's not that bad. You can walk all the time. You are just sore and you aren't walking two miles just short distances. I went shopping at target the day after and was fine ..As for driving I don't know my dr said two weeks but I go today for my one week follow up and ill ask then. I don't take pain meds anymore. Hope this helps :)

I was only in overnight. Unless you have complications my doctor only does one night. I was up the night of surgery walking the halls. They will make you get up and walk. They told me no driving for a week and only then if I was off pain meds- which I was. I was able to walk when I got home just fine. Did walk a little hunched and only short distances at first.

I had surgery on Tuesday and came home on Thursday. Not sure how much age and weight play into this. I'm 47 and my surgery day weight was 260.

I was told you could drive when you're 1 1/2-2 weeks out, as long as you're off pain meds.

I am almost 2 weeks out and am still not moving around pain free. My pain is minor, but I'm certainly not moving normally. I still can't sleep on my side and I still have to think about how to best get up from a sitting or laying position. I also had to be readmitted to the hospital due to a fever, so that may have set me back a little.

I had surgery on a Monday morning @ 7:00 am and I was sent home on a Wednesday afternoon... so basically 3 days. I drove the next day after being home and was back to work in one week. My recovery was very fast and bounced back real quick.

I spent 5 nights and 6 days in the hospital. I had to keep a surgical drain in my for about one month. That was the most painful part of the entire experience. I was tired all the time for about three weeks. Slowly but surely that tiredness went away. At 9 months post-op I am still learning how to eat. My weight loss has probably stopped so I am learning about maintenance.

I vomited a total of one time after surgery simply because of eating too fast. At no other time have I had a problem with eating.

I wish you success on your weight loss journey.

Thanks Bakawaka. Do you regret any of it?

I do not regret surgery at all and would do it again If necessary. I had excellent care in the hospital. I had a great surgeon and great nurses. I am very grateful for the surgery.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
