My port was placed in my upper right quad, during the surgery.

My surgery was 2/14, and everyday, it seems I am more aware of the port. It feels as though there is no room in my abdomen for it, and when I cough or sneeze, it feels as though it wants to pop out, (which I know it won't of course). Is that normal?

Also, even though I have lost 8 lbs. already, my abdomen feels very distended, and the jeans I was able to wear pre-op, I no longer can not even get zipped half way up. Is that also normal, and did anyone else notice that, too.

I don't see the doctor until Thursday, and am thinking this may be normal, just hoping for some reassurance! :help:

I felt the same way, my pre-surgery jeans did not fit for about 3 weeks until the swelling went down even though I was 10 pounds lighter.

I had surgery 2/15 and am still so bloated. My port it placed in a similar position and I too can feel it. I can look in the mirror from the side and see it protruding a little. I'm sure it is just due to the swelling and inflamation.

Me too...I thought the reason I could feel the port so much was due to a lower BMI (33)..but I'm constantly feeling like they are out of place somehow. I did the same thing with my jeans. Having lost 11.5 lbs since surgery on the 12th, I thought they'd feel much better than before, but couldn't wait to get them off. I have a feeling it's all about swelling inside that's not down yet. I think we have to wait it out. Kind of uncomfortable, but I'm hopine it will be better soon.

Thanks for all of the support. I feel so much better knowing that I am not the only one who has noted this aspect.

For all of my reading up on the surgery, there are quite a things that are not expained well.

It does help to have support, or is it; misery loves company?!:tired

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
