Tip re: reheating protein

Recommended Posts

Hi all. Someone who is 2 years post op gave me this tip that I thought was pretty cool, so I thought I'd share it. She said that when you go eat out and get a to go box for a later meal, DO NOT reheat the Protein. Protein apparently changes as it is reheated, and it can become too hard to chew or digest. She said it would get stuck for her a bunch and cause a lot of pain. It was something I hadn't thought about...I was actually looking forward to having leftovers. :-)

I have a cook book for bariatric patients and it says if you reheat the Protein to eat it with a dressing or sauce so that it will moisten it up and will go down fine.

This has certainly been the case for me. Any time I have tried to heat up leftover meat...it has caused me a lot of grief. The latest being yesterday. Was in pain for 2 hours and threw up 3 times. Never again will I try to eat leftovers. :(

A quick and foolproof way to reheat meat fish bread or veggies and retain the moistness and texture is to cover plate with a bowl, it's that simple, I've been reheating this way for years alway tender and moist. Please be careful, the bowl will have trapped steam in it ,so always a have dish towel or glove on when lifting the bowl off the plate, hope this helps.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
