RJ the ever decreasing story

Recommended Posts

Hey now!

Background: i have been heavy my whole life and since my 30's have been just plain old every day run of the mill fat! 450+ ( at some points heavier). i have treied every diet on earth.

my story begins August 2012 in the diner in Media Pa.

My best friend asked me to look into Gastric bypass surgery for 3 reasons

1: he is my brother and loves me

2: i was turning 50 in September

3: lets face i was not getting any thinner.

After my research i determined that this was the tool i had been missing. i further checked on insurance and company policy on medical leave.all came back very positive.

After narrowing down the possible hospitals in the Philadelphia area, i arrive at the doorsteps of Bryn Mawr hospital and the bariactric center headed by Dr. Richard Ing.

It has been nine months of testing and pre screening and i am in the final pre-op stretch and on my liquid diet phase. i am scheduled and fully ready to move to the next phase of my life after surgey on june 12, 2013.

I have dropped 35lbs so far and that was before the liquid diet started. i exercise on a daily basis and the results are amazing. i feel like a new man, ( why did i wait so long...doh!) i am at the best place i have been in years both physicaly and mentally. in one word my life is AWESOME! can only imagine were i will be a year from today.

wish me luck, June 12th is just around the corner..catch ya later

RJ

Good luck to you both. I am doing all my pre op stuff. Going in for sleep study consultation on 13th and have to see psychologist and nutritionist before they can submit to insurance. My highest I've ever weighed was 360 when I was pregnant. My weigh in at surgeon was 336. My bmi is 54. Luckily no health issues besides GERD and spine issues. Hoping to have surgery sometime around my birthday, which is July 12. My goal right now is to lose 100lb by my 40th which is next year.

I had GERD issues also before surgery. Now, all my symptoms are gone! It's wonderful.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
