Having an 'I wish i never did this' moment

Recommended Posts

I just want to be normal again. It's not so much that I feel addicted to food. I just can't stand not being normal. For just one day I would love to be able to eat what I actually WANT to eat, rather than having to watch everyone else eat it and being stuck with something I really don't want. Of course it would help tremendously if the people around me actually didn't eat these foods in front of me, but I'm not going to ask them to alter their lives to accommodate me either. So I just either suck it up or go in the other room and cry.

Girl I am there with you. I feel like this everyday!! It's not that we don't appreciate this tool but it would be nice to have both. I am 7 weeks post op and I have bitter feelings about what I have done everyday. I broke down and got a caramel frappe at McDonald's and I took 3 drinks of it and threw it away but it felt so good to do that. Sometimes you just need to feel normal again. I am down 40 pounds and I am so thankful but my cravings are so hard to kick! We are human!! Hang in there hopefully it will get better! You are not alone!

It is normal to feel this way. It will pass and one day you will be able to eat what you want, but just much smaller portions. Go somewhere and have a really good cry - I felt so much better after I did. Remember your fat cells are releasing hormones right now an you will be a little more on edge.

I hated reading my following line when I was going through it, but trust me

It does get better!!! Hang in there!!!

Totally agree with music... We all mourn food like a long lost friend and confidant. It does get better... I promise!!! I did a lot of self talking and read everything I could get my hands on... It is hard and I feel for each and everyone of you. I wish you could all skip the "wanting to feel normal part" ... You will feel normal when you are shopping in the normal sizes and running up and down stairs without feeling out of breath. So many great things are coming your way... I promise!!!!

Im almost 2 months out on the 25 th I don't regret having it done at all. I still have eating issues but I don't regret it. Go to the mall buy a size smaller shirt that you love the time goes by fast and before you know it you'll be wearing it. Try it it will make you feel sooooo good!

Thanks, I'm so glad I'm not alone. Today ended up being a day that I ate whatever I wanted and didn't care if I got sick. Had soda and ice cream. The soda was diet and I swished it in my mouth to de-fizz before I swallowed lol. The Ice cream was bad, I know. At least sugar doesn't bother me lol

I miss food. I miss being normal. I miss drinking with meals. I miss my doublemint gum MOST of all...but you know what? I've lost 53 pounds. Something I hadn't managed to do in the last 2 years with diet pills and exercise. FIFTY THREE POUNDS. My surgery was 4/1. So, I understand the missing stuff.

But also, you've lost 73 pounds. 20 more than me! Doesn't that feel amazing? All the food you like got you to needing to lose over 200 pds. It wasn't your friend, or mine.

My biggest regret is that my arms are going to need surgery after this. No doubt about it. They are disgusting. I stand in front of the mirror and shake them. It's like a horror movie.

I have moments like that as well. Last night I went to a bonfire with some great friends. Everyone was drinking beer, and eating brats while I sat there with my Water. I was really regretting the surgery for awhile, but as I heard how good I was looking from my friends, I realized that I would be ok. I can still get together with everyone and have fun, without drinking and eating.

I'm able to eat what. Want in moderation. I just have sugar sensitivity & grease. I can have a slice if I wish but I don't really want it. This surgery gave me a whole new way of looking at food. I switch drinks from whole milk to skim milk at Starbucks no need to dump but I love cafe & I enjoy it any size even if a venti takes me more then 1 hour to drink. I love it!

You get used to your body & what you can or can't handle.

I look for substitutes when I miss something. Walden Farms products have been a life saver for me. I can still have Doublemint gum and as a matter of fact, the peppermint helps calm my stomach at times. Also try Eggface's website. She has so much to offer and wonderful recipes for WLS people.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
