First meeting with the surgeon, what to expect?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! So I have a referral to meet with a surgeon about getting a weight loss surgery. I have no idea what to expect. Any and all information you could give me from day one to even after the surgery would be so helpful. As of now I want to go through with it but I want to know every little detail of what to expect. Thank you!

The first visit was my least favorite. I felt like I had to prove myself and my knowledge to him....a lot of questions about why I was over weight, what I'd tried to lose, family support, etc....my guess is a lot if people come in looking or a quick fix without doing any research, etc so he's deciding who is serious and who is wasting his time....

My first visit (after the seminar) was pretty easy. He explained to me the procedure (though with all my research I could tell him how to do it). Weighed me, asked about health problems I have, took blood pressure, they looked at my stomach to make sure I was good for lap surgery, and checked me out in general. Whole thing only took about an hour.

I have gallstones and the surgeon i met with for that is the one referring me, i have tried everything under the sun and i also have pcos and nothing seems to work or if it does work it does not stick. I hope the first meeting goes well, after the initial meeting and it was decided to go forward what happened than? What pre op things did you have to do? How long before you were scheduled for surgery? I wonder how long I will have to deal with my gallbladder pain since they wont do the surgery right now.

It really depends on your insurance company. Mine only wanted a psych eval. You can see the timeline in my signature- only took about 2 months for me. But I know if you need a 6 month diet or something it can take a while. I was very lucky despite my high out of pocket. I was approved on first try.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
