Removal of Gall Bladder and RNY

Recommended Posts

I was scheduled to have my RNY on May 10th but instead the Dr. Said he will remove my Gall Bladder first. Could the both of them be done at the same time? Have anyone here hAd both of them done? What am I up against? Will this push my surgery back. I tried to talk to my Dr. When I found out but he was in surgery.

Yes they do them together all the time....unless your gallbladder is infected or there's a major problem with it I really don't understand waiting!!!

HW 312, pre-op (lap-band) 294, pre-op (RNY) 255, surgery date 2/11/13, goal weight 154, current weight 220.2

I'm having my gall bladder out and my hernia repaired. A 3 for 1 deal.

I was hoping my doctor could remove mine at the same time. I'm going to talk to him again. I found out I had gallstones two years ago when I got an x-ray for back pain. had my first gallbladder attack last august (that's PAIN) and actually had an appointment to see a surgeon to get it removed this past January. When I decided on WLS shortly after, I cancelled that appointment. I wish I could get it removed at the same time, like some people have done. I mean, it's in the same general area and they're in there already, why not?

I hate to say it, but your Dr. may want to do them separately for financial reasons. He will get paid less if he does them together. You should ask him how it is in your best interest to be put under twice and be cut twice when both procedures can be done together.

I'm supposed to do the same on Monday I have been trying to get hold of my doctor to find out the impact on the recovery n how long everything will take. My lover enzymes are very high so I have been worried about the supposed viral infection that may. Be causing it also I have been wondering of weight loss will be fast with a three on one

Actually my surgeon WOULD benefit from doing it. If I did it separate my surgeon would not be the one removing it. His group only does WLS. The surgeon I would see for my gallbladder is in a different office and town. I would just like to avoid having TWO separate surgeries and recoveries. My work would have kittens if I had to be out twice!

Hi guys just wanted to post update in case someone else may have similar complications. I have been taken off the operation list for Monday 6 May my bloods were apparently not encouraging and surgeon wants me to resolve the elevated liver enzymes before the roux en y. Not quite sure what to make of this second postponement. I'm praying that my liver is ok and bloods improve. I suppose being cautious is prudent. I thought the gall bladder was the problem but there seems to be a concern that in case it's not i may not be healthy enough to proceed with the wls. I wish everyone the best if I'm cleared for surgery I think I'll post operation instead of raising my hopes up. But I'll continue learning from all of you and trying to loose on the Protein diet. All the best to upcoming surgeries.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
