Finally part of the club!

Recommended Posts

Oh my gosh guys! I'm finally part of the post-op club. I am 8 days post-op and I'm seriously feeling 100% better than I thought I would. The first few days were rough. For sure. But today I feel GREAT. I feel energized. I'm finally able to get all my Protein, Water, and Vitamins in without gagging. I had a hunger pain for the first time. I dumped for the first time (on 1% milk). I finally have my appetite back. And my incision pain is almost non existent. Some of you really had me scared with all the horror stories! lol. So for those of you still pre-op, don't be afraid. You're going to feel better than you've ever felt in your life. Its crazy that I feel this way 8 days post-op. I just felt like I needed to share :)

Good for you! I'm day four post op, and getting better each day! Left side pain is still pretty noticeable, but controlled with postition or meds. Dumping on milk? Yikes, that's what I drink. I am afraid for it to happen, but seems like anything can set it off in different people! Continued good luck to you!

I've been totally fine on fat free milk, but I drank 8 oz of 1% pretty quickly (like over 5 minutes) and it made me dump. lol

Erika, it could have just been the drinking too fast that made you dump and not the milk. I know they want us drinking fat free, but 1% isn't that far from fat free... I know every single time I drink too fast or eat Jello too fast I dump every time ! Good luck and see if you drink it slower if you dump or don't. I'm betting its from drinking too fast. My Dr. told me it should take me at least 45 min to drink 6 oz. and if not I'm drinking way too fast, and I'm 6 weeks post op.

Some people also become lactose intolerant after surgery. That could be why.

I've been tolerating dairy perfectly since surgery. That was the only thing. lol. I think it probably is the fact that I drank too fast.

Yep, since about 2 weeks post op I can't do milk or yogurt without dumping, cheese still seems to be okay, thankfully! My NUT said it is very common and often goes away after a while.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
