Talked to my surgeons office today. Today was the first discussion of all the things I have to do before surgery. It seems insurmountable. Also, because I live in The middle of nowhere all of these visits are 90 mi away. Sorry to whine. Just venting and scared.

I know how you feel. My doctor was over 100 miles away. I did most of my stuff via fax and through people in my town. Of course, I paid most of mine out of pocket so I didn't have to jump through too many hoops for it.

same here, my Doc is nearly 2 hours from me.

I wasn't overwhelmed until the insurance approved and they got me a surgery date....then I was TOTALLY overwhelmed. You are not alone. I am 6 days pre-op. Today was my last apt for anything before surgery; I was cleared with all of my pre-op tests today including a MRSA test that I was scared to death about.

aah love, shame, it is very overwhelming.

you know what helped me? get yourself a big blank book. and then you paste everything in there. and i mean everything. from emails with doctors' appointments. to payments made. to accounts (copies). in there i also drew a "spreadsheet" so to keep track of my bills and how much I have paid and when, etc.

in that book i also kept a diary for myself. my feelings. my fears. what is happening. what all the specialists say after each appointment.

JUST EVERYTHING.

you don't know how much that will actually calm you. to be able to have everything neatly in a book.

it is very overwhelming and even now, 6 days before my op, i am still overwhelmed. but how did i get here? step by step. taking each day at a time. you will get there too. we all will.

as my dad always say: "this too shall pass".

just stick to it. because it is going to change our lives. and we deserve it. WE DESERVE IT, GIRL~!!!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
