Water/beverages

Recommended Posts

Hey, my name is Kim and I am so new to all of this, I am in the mid stages of being approved! Have had all testing done, I've meet with my nutritionist, and the psych evals! Anyway, back to my question, I am ok with the post diet and the Protein, and the foods. But what concerns me the most is the liquids...I drink probably 200 oz of Fluid a day...water, crystal light, etc.....before lunch I've usually downed at least 60-70 oz. the nutritionist and my health coach have been telling me to start sipping and not drinking with meals to prepare! I was wondering if anyone else drinks a lot of fluids and how they coped!!! I feel like I'm drying up if I don't have a drink near by!!! Any words of advice, encouragement would be so appreciated:)

Kim

Actually, it probably helps that you're constantly drinking fluids now because you will be post op too! It was a huge adjustment to make drinking and eating two very separate activities, but if i can make that adjustment, anyone can! I'm basically glued to my water bottle throughout the day. You have a leg up because it seems like you already are doing that. You'll just be able to get less Fluid in, overall... Good luck!! :)

I have the same issue with drinking alot. I drink 130oz of Water everyday and probably more on this pre opt diet. I am always thirsty. I am worried about not being able to drink much Water or drinking too much too fast.

I'm 3 days post op and have a question....do the sugar free popsicles or sugar free Jello count towards your liquid consumption? For instance, if you have a 6 oz popsicle, does that count towards your Water? ?? I'm having a tough time with the water. I got in all 3 Protein Shakes yesterday but only 30 oz of water. help!!!

My surgeon said they count towards liquid. I'm pre op but counting them as liquid since they do hydrate you.

I had to up liquids slowly because I'm not a big drinker. Sad thing is that the only time I really drink a lot is when I eat! This is hard for me and one I have to really start working on. But I am doing way better on getting my Fluid in at least.

Anyone found a good non sweet caffeine free tea? I'm not a sweet fan and fruit flavors I.e.,crystal light is getting old. Just want something besides plain water...

I bought kids sippy cups to help me slow down when I'm drinking. I actually found one that looks like a coffee mug so I'm not walking around with a Dora the explorer cup. Lol. Also when I'm trying not to drink before and after eating I put my Water in the fridge while I'm preparing my meal and then I usually save something really moist for my last bite like a piece of fruit or a cucumber from my salad. Then I clean up and try to do other things to keep my mind off of it.

Make your own with Decaf tea bags. You could brew a single cup or a whole pitcher and sweeten to taste with spend a or whatever.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
