teeth problems tooth decay

Recommended Posts

Hi. I'm hoping to her from some post op folks at least a few years out about the condition of your teeth. I have been reading about many people losing their teeth and it's starting to freak me out. Please chime in and tell me how you're doing. If you're having teeth issues would you still do the surgery again? Thanks.

My aunt is 20 years out. Has not lost any teeth and has kept her weight off. I will say that if you follow your program, take in all the recommended Protein, Vitamins and other things you should be fine. Some people have rotten teeth to begin with. I have known many people years out from RNY and no tooth loss.

Hi!! Im an RDH and there are no correlations with this surgery and tooth loss. Tooth decay or loss is caused by bad brushing habits or lack of oral hygiene and bad food choices. So as long as you are brushing and flossing 2x daily and seeking routine dental care you will be fine!!

Thank you all for responding. Once I saw a few comments to that effect I did google it and it seemed like it before an issue further out. Of course the problem is that people further out who are doing great probably wouldn't be posting as much anymore so I think the picture you could get from Google could be skewed. That's why I wanted to check with people here before overreacting.

the connection it has is the Calcium. if you arent taking your correct calcium supplements as you are supposed to your body is going to find a way to get it and that will be from you BONES AND TEETH. Only way to prevent that is take the supplements as told by your surgeon and all will be well!! good luck

I remember being told that as an Atkins diet person I had that possible problem... That being said my teeth have been extremely bad in the past 10 yrs but it could be my comorbidities

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
