Who handles your post op care in case you have any complications when you fly home? And is it cash only or do they take credit??

I talked to my family Dr. Before I went and she agreed to do my follow up visits. lab testing at 3 months, 6 months and a year. If I would have had major complications I would have just went to the ER.

I am also having gastric bypass with Dr. Louisiana Valenzuela at Hospital MI Doctor through Mecico Bariatric Center, but not until 2/23/2015.

Hi Baxi, I am contemplating on having surgery with the same doctor. HOw did everything go for you?

Belinda,

When do you have your surgery? What kind of surgery are you having? I am thinking I would like to have the bypass but I think the recovery time is a little longer.

I have not had surgery yet. I plan to have VSG.

Hi There,

Everything went great. I flew out on a Sunday, had some preop labs in TJ and then surgery bright and early on Monday. I had the gastric bypass. I was in the hospital until Thursday morning and released to the hotel. Then I flew home on Friday. I was really sore and tired when I got home, but at the same time, I left TJ at 930 am and did not get back to my house until 130am. Everything with the surgery went great. Much better care than I've ever had at a hospital stateside. I'm almost 6 months out and down a smidge more than 100 pounds. Before I left, I spoke with my PCP and she was completely on board with the whole having surgery in Mexico. She actually had 2 other patients who had went to TJ and had the same doctor. I live in a small town, so that was pretty impressive to me. Dr. V does good work. My PCP did all my followup labs at 3 months and will do them again next month for my 6 month followup and other than a little bit low on Vitamin D, everything looked good. Having this surgery was the best thing I have ever did.

I just had the gastric sleeve on 6/12/15 in Tijuana Mexico with Dr Ramos Kelly. He is an amazing Dr and I loved him..I did alot of research and really trusted him with my care.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
