I realize every surgeon and nut is different. But when i see what people post what they are eating, like all the starchy carbs you have got to be kidding me. I've known so many banders and rny who failed themselves by eating the things that got most of us plump to begin with. I'm a carb freak when I'm not on my billionth diet, so i know when i get this tool i have to use it to the best of my potential for the rest of my life. But us it really ok to eat chips and bread, come on am I missing something here??

Mine only allows lean Protein for the first 75% of weight loss then you get veggies back and at maintenance weight you get fruit back....no more carbs or starchy foods for me.....but that is my surgeon and ,like you said, many nuts and docs have different approaches to our pos op diets....just do what yours says. Everyone should follow their nut and docs own plan....

No. Its not ok. Unless you don't care to go for max weight loss. You want to lose 50% of your excess weight? How about 75%? Or 85%? When I add more than one serving of carbs a day my weight loss completely stalls until I go back to low carb. Eat meat, fish and veggies/fruit. Period. You will lose the weight. Fried foods? Not. High fat? Not. But its your choice. It takes common sense.

My surgeon allows healthy carbs, it's worked in to his daily diet and calorie allowance.

My list is at home but fruits, veggies, brown rice, multi-grain cereals, whole wheat breads....(no chips on the list darn the luck!). He recommends the carbs be a certain percentage of your diet but i'm loaded with hydrocodone and don't remember the percent right now...20-30 ish

Mine allows some carbs, but only in the form of what you might find in fruits and veggies. We are have almost, if completely none for the first six weeks and it is still supposed to be very limited after that. It is hard to have none, especially when doing soft foods, but his focus is on getting the 60 grams of Protein in per day. Apart from the three slices of banana I am supposed to eat because of a potassium deficiency, I really am not eating anything that is mostly carb (his rules).

I have seen some bariatric brands are starting to carry crackers and chips that are enriched with Protein so that we can get our crunchy chip fix without going back to old habits. I am not far enough out to have anything crunchy, so I haven't tried them. For me, it may be too much of a slippery slope, especially for the first several months. I had a band for three years and didn't do as well as I wanted to. Some was my own fault (chips, popcorn, and ice cream) and some was because of the tool. With RNY, a lot of people cannot handle things like chips, popcorn, or ice cream and that is why I chose this procedure. With the band I learned that I can do lots of things in moderation, but chips and carbs aren't one of em!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
