Post-op Cookie Temptation

Recommended Posts

I am three months post-op. Today is the first day that I saw a cookie and wanted to eat it. I am glad to report that I did NOT eat it. Instead I pulled out a low-carb, high-Protein Atkins snack bar (100 calories) and ate it. I am delighted that I resisted the tempation and had a substitute. But I was shocked because ever since surgery - except today - I have never wanted a cookie or any baked good, in fact, anything sweet. My brain told me to eat and that there would be no dumping.

What is your epxerience? Do you find yourself craving baked goods? Will I dump if I eat it? I want to experience dumping if I eat it so that my brain will be retrained.

Do you think having Atkins high-protein, low-carb Snacks as a substitute is a good idea?

Thanks for any thoughts/suggestions/observations.

When I absolutely want a cookie I choose a sugar free cookie. They are really good and are ok for an occasional treat.

I think you had a good substitute. I wanted a cookie a few weeks ago. So, I thought I am going to see if I dump and I should have on what I ate. Nope sigh.... Just got kinda weak the next day. No brain retraining. I just have to have pure will power. So, I will have a nibble and that seems to satisfy me (rarely). I just can't have them around even sugar free. I know I will snack on them.

Its a good substitute if it filled the craving, however if you are still obsessed with that cookie, a teeny taste may have been the answer. They never taste as goid as they look, and I know I dislike nearly all treats now. chocolate, yuck, cake, yuck doesnt even look good and tastes worse!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
