I'm 60. Anyone else over 50 doing RNY?

Recommended Posts

Hand in there! 30 pounds didn't cut it much for me, either. I am now down 65 lb from date of surgery and am finally coming alive!! [emoji846] Be patient with yourself. You will get there!
I've lost 50 some odd lbs since December 10th 2018 RnY. I am biding my time for a knee replacement in one leg and have a bone disease in the other. A brace on both legs. I was doing so good then bad weather hit and put a kink in my exercise. I was just setting here disappointed in myself that I can only ride a bike approximately half a mile. Knowing later my legs are going to hurt like blazes. I keep trying and I'm told to just keep trying. When the pools open I hope to do Water exercises. Don't be discouraged my friend baby steps are going to get us where we are going as long as we keep trying and not give up or give in. Slow and steady wins the race. Claricey,
Hey i had the sleeve October 2016 and have been unable to do any exercise as so many things have been going on with my health.
I initially lost 87 lbs the first 11 months and then up and down gaining weight and then loosing it my lowest weight was down to 198 recently was 231.I have been fighting to get back down to the weight loss I had. I am now at 218 but I do have lots of issues with my knees, bone on bone as well. I just had cortisone shots and then injections of a gel like Fluid to cushion the bones. I am trying to keep surgery for knee replacement at bay as long as possible.
I also had a metal implant in December last year for stimulating my muscles in hip area.
Been very hard to do any exercise at all.
Hang in there. If you have a orthopedic doctor ask for help with your knees and don't get discouraged.
Good luck with your journey

Hi Allie! Thanks so much! Sounds like we’re in somewhat similar situations. I did just this past week start with aqua therapy. My knee doctor got me into physical therapy and it’s all underwater. They even have underwater treadmills. It’s so cool. I’m looking forward to next week already. I have been able to walk and build some muscle around the worst knee. It’s definitely helping. I also got the cortisone and gel injections but they stopped working for me. 😟 Thanks again!

Thanks so much. The Water exercise is the best thing that has happened to me. I broke through my plateau after starting regular water exercise!! Thank you for the encouragement!!

I'm sorry you have to go under the knife again. The bypass will serve you well and be totally worth it. Same surgeon?

I'm noticing more young women getting surgery. I'm wondering if anyone else had it in 50 or 60s and how you did?

Hi! I'm 52 and had ROUNY in March. My starting weight on surgery day was 235. I'm 210 right now. My doc says that due to my age and that I'm a sleeve revision, I will most likely lose slower than average. Yay me...lOL. The surgery was perfect and I was back at work in 4 days. Mo complications so far.

Hey,

I am so glad to see someone who has been through it and did great through the same surgery I soon hope to be going through.

I am waiting for approval from the insurance companies to get the surgery done. My reflux is so much worse than when I got the sleeve surgery 0ct of 2016.

I am not pleased seeing the Dr.say because of age and it being a revision surgery we will lose weight slowly.

I am almost 64 .So I have to get in gear and get some of this weight off before surgery.

But congratulations on your success.

Allie

Not even sure if she is still active. Bet Alex Brecher and Ken might know, not sure if they are monitoring on Mother's Day.

I can now buy clothes in normal stores again. Admittedly the first time when I started trying on clothes, I really had to keep myself calm. Normally trying on clothes causes me to become SOOO depressed that it take weeks just to get over it. Now, I have to keep myself from not wanting to buy everything!

Hi, congrats on your surgery!  Saw you went to Dr. Pleatman.  I've been between doing the Lap Band and sleeve.  I was suppose to have a consultation with Dr. Pleatman this month.  So far great experience with his office coordinator Carrie (sp?).   Feeling really scared and nervous about getting the sleeve.  If you can share...how was your experience with Dr. Pleatman's office and the surgery?   Thanks!

I'm not new, I was an active Lapbander from:

February 6, 2017 Here I am on October 4, 2019 thinking back over my Lapband journey and how I thought I would be banded for life. Unfortunately, I have been sick for some time, and am on medications; and well my weight has constantly slowly increased. I was 225 pounds when I had my Lapband surgery on Dec. 17, 2010. At least my weight hasn't reached 210. I have been fluctuating between 202-206. For that, I'm grateful. I'm just excited to be able to have another tool to assist me with my weight loss journey. I'm not looking forward to the liquid stage, however.
