Recovery supplement after working out?

Recommended Posts

I'm almost 6months post RnY and have gone from 150kg down to just over 102kg. I've returned to the Middle East as a contractor for a civilian firm working for NATO and as such have access to world class fitness facilities here at Kandahar Airfield in Afghanistan.

I'm using a fitbit along with myfitnesspal to monitor my levels as well as my dietary intake which I'm doing great with. I'm keeping up with my Protein levels as recommended by MFP base on my activities levels but has anyone used anything for recovery after their workouts? Creatine? Some other post workout product?

I'm doing about 3hr daily sessions with the majority of the time being cardio such as running a 5km on the treadmill, 3km rowing, doing 2km on the elliptical and 50 floors on a stair climber not to mention doing Ab busters. As far as weight training is concerned, circuits mostly...

I like to drink my Protein Shake (50 grams) after I run. I do a 4 mile run on the threadmill each morning and after I get our of the shower I like to sip my Protein shake. This works for me so I get my daily protein in right in the beginning of the day plus it makes me recover faster from running when I sip the protein. Then about two hours later I have a 1/2 of low fat cottage cheese. This works for me ..... you may need more or something different. I would experiment and see what works best for you.

Y trainer said Protein after your workout is best. My supplement guy said creatine would have too much sugar in it for us. I would look at the ingredients before buying it. My husbands creatine has like 40g of sugar.

I use whey Protein Powder body fortress brand (sold at Walmart in very large containers) 56g in one serving (2 scoops)- my recipe is 2.5 scoops with 12 oz of soy milk (lactose issues) and I drink in 2 servings. I was also told after any workout is best to consume your Protein requirements.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
