Help! Worried About A Friend

Recommended Posts

I am posting this in several different forums hoping someone will have had the same problems.

I had my lap band in June of 2006. I have had very few problems so I can't help my friend. She is in desperate need of help and is too sick to even get on line and ask everyone.

She had her lb surgery last Wed. (1-31). She had a different dr than I did. My dr put me on a liquid diet for two week pre surgery. Her's did not. She ate regular food until midnight before the surgery. She called me Sunday in tears. She was hurting real bad and throwing up. She is also so hungry it is making her ill. I told her to just walk alot and get in a rocking chair and it would get better. She just called me and she is no better. I just found out that she has also been running a fever since the surgery. I did not do that. This morning it was over 101. I don't think this is normal. She called her dr and was told this sometimes happens. Did anyone else run fever for a week? The dr agreed to see her on monday the 12th but I think she need to see one right now.

Her dr was Dr. Christian Thomas out of houston. Did anyone else have him?

If anyone else has had these problems, please let me know. I am afraid that something is very wrong with her.

I am no expert but I would think if she is throwing up and running a fever something is wrong. If the doctor will not see her then she needs to go to the emergency room, NOW!!!! Throwing up is not good when banded. I was warned about throwing up after being banded.

It may turn out to be nothing but I would much rather be safe than sorry! I would worry too!

I will keep your friend in my thoughts and prayers. Good Luck!

Keep us posted.

My doctor did not have me on a pre-op diet either, and I had no complications, so I don't think that is it. I am certainly no doctor, but fever often is a sign of infection. Its hard for me to understand why the doctor won't wee her. I would be persistant until he got me in or go to the ER if it gets any worse.

I agree with Lisa....just make sure the ER knows about the LapBand, which requires special "handling". I definitiely would not wait till the 12th to see the doctor!

I just called her and told her that everyone here agrees with me and she needs to see a dr today. She is on her way to her regular dr. I will keep you posted.

Thanks everyone.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
