Head issues and the Scale

Recommended Posts

I have found that I do better if I do not weigh myself. I went from 12/26 to 2/2 without stepping on the scale (with or without clothes on) and then once I stepped on the thing I have been off of my plan. I went from 284 to 268 in that time. This bothers me because 268 is the plateau mark I stayed at for 9 months before being banded, and was the reason I quit Atkins and just started eating (back up to 318). It's like: if the scale does not say what I want it to, I just quit. If I don't know what the scale says, I just do what I set my mind to.

I was doing the thin for good plan, and doing it successfully, but now I just want to eat what I can whenever I can. Still doing low carb, but not measureing things.

I guess I am weird. But in all honesty, now that I have eaten the past few days without imposed limits, I am thinking: "ok, now I have cheated long enough, don't know if the scale has gone up or down, guess it is time to get back on the diet so it does not go too far up."

Anyone else have this issue? If not, I must be insane....:phanvan

I had a real scale addiction in the past, could not go near the scale without getting on! It became really negative because if I did not lose weight for a few days I would be more likely to cheat ( pre band -old dieting days). Years ago I lost a lot of weight but the charts said I needed to lsoe another 10 punds to be at ideal and I just could not do it, instead of focusing on what I had achieved and that I looked good, felt good I gave up and gradually regained all the weight! I threw the scales away to break the habit!!

I have now gone back to weighing maybe once or twice per week as it s really difficult to see weight loss or gain when you start at 385 pounds- I have lost 56 pounds and take a weekly update photo and it is only in the last one that I am beginning to see a samll difference

So last thought is- as long as it does not become an obssesion it is useful tool-I now team it with measurements and find often when the scale is still the measurments drop. If the scale becomes a real slave driver that threatens your progress- lock it away for a couple for weeks to teach it some respect!

I'm with you Poodles...I never weigh myself either. I'm never happy with whatever it says. If I didn't lose enough then I'd be really upset, and if I lost say 5lbs, then I'd think I could've done better. I always sabatoge myself right before getting weighed and after, if I'm upset with the results. You're not insane. I know how hard it is to get back on schedule. Just keep trying and you'll do fine.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
